Malaury Martin the 2nd :(

Hopefully its been a case of the guy not getting his best role in the team and he kicks on again with us. Probably see him more as a rotation option, like Forrest, they are going to be important for keeping our League position going

Yes of course but I was more meaning at his own club rather than the league itself.

Nice try at what? And yes I realise he played in the championship last year. But he doesn’t appear to have been a standout. Hopefully I’m wrong.

I understand some reservation, however we aren’t going to be able to sign players who have stand out seasons in The Championship. That immediately means big money. It appears the mitigation for his performance is that he was played deeper than he is suited and the new manager wanted a different type of player. Hence why he’s became available. And Neilson must feel playing him more advanced will get the most out of him.

He can drive in Cloggs for all I care, loving having Savage at the club, lucky to have him.

Being a standout in the league doesn't mean much anyway. Glenn Whelan or Joey Barton anyone?

To be fair Savage has got a lot more right than wrong.

Either that or he left the driving to the taxi driver.

I mean, Damour was a mainstay in the championship and got promoted. Maybe there's more to a signing that that...

Willing to give the guy a chance, sounds like he's more of a attacking midfield threat with a good dead ball delivery. Probably play in the 10 slot in rotation with Boyce or in midfield. Played mostly out of position in central midfield at Peterborough.

Again and I don’t want to be negative but there is nothing that suggests Grant will be the type of player to take improve us. 28 years old and spend most of his career in league one and two.

I don't want to be negative 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Prime years ahead of him and considering that both Savage and Neilson rate him I have high hopes. Hopefully a Ryan Stevenson type signing.

I was on the piss all weekend so haven’t been on here much.

From what I've been told anyway, although other posters do say differently 🤷‍♂️

Curious what your opinion of Michael Smith is?? He came to us from Peterborough where he had played 3 seasons in league one and prior to that had a few seasons in league 2. I think I speak for the majority of fans and say that Smith has been a good signing for us despite what must be in your opinion is a career that would have suggested he would bring nothing to improve the team.

I would think the recruitment team have seen something in him that will make him a fit for our style of play. He doesn't seem to have had the best of seasons previously but was highly rated before that. I don't want to state the obvious (but I'm going to) but different players suit different formations and different styles of football. I have full confidence that Savage and Co will have spotted something that we mere mortals haven't.

Sort of played out best football when we did. I expect us to be 3-4-3 and 4-2-3-1 this year again.

Interesting.

Don’t doubt you as I’ve seen you nail a few before but the source I’ve got (who gave me the home strip leak a few hours before release) has said it’s very much still on and is closer than we think

His CV isn't the greatest in the world but I've got a good feeling about Mr Grant. Reckon he might be that goalscoring midfielder we've been crying out for.

I would say we had some very good spells using both formations. Definitely agree on having the flexibility to switch between both. I would say Grant and Forrest need to earn their places. If Gino or GMS have a great pre season we can't just start Forrest as he's the new signing. Great forward options once we had a striker or two ...

Do folk forget we need a bigger squad this season? All new signings are not going to be coups are they!? We will have some coups, some squad players but all who will offer something, especially when we are playing every Thursday and Sunday for a good few weeks at least.

Good news if it is. I'm firmly in the 2 strikers required camp.

They can't play more than 5 games. The goalie and 1 other player can be over age. I'm almost positive thats the rules.

So you can stick one over age player in there to get fitness, as long as he hasn’t played more than 5 first team games that season. Ideal for someone like Beni coming back

I actually like Gino and GMS, decent squad players but I just don’t think they are consistent enough. But you are right, if we can get Shankland and Simms it’s been a top transfer window. I’m still expecting players with European experience to come in aswell.

He was played out of position, sitting deeper in midfield. His best position is attacking mid, where he excelled the previous season. I reckon you will be pleasantly surprised.

2 recent new signings for undisclosed fees.

In both announcements, Joe Savage specifically thanks the board for their backing.

I'm reading that to mean there were some hefty fees involved.  Anyone else?

Could just as easily be undisclosed to protect the selling club. We appear to longer be a club that gets pissed about or over pays.

Regardless welcome Jorge. 👍

Really hope this is the case.... wicked corner taker ✔️ wicked free kick taker ✔️ long throw specialist... ? And then we'd be totally sorted for set pieces!

I think Gino and Sibbick are the two that have the most 'potential'. It just depends whether or not that can be unlocked and realised. Definitely consistency with Gino. If we could sort that he'd be a first pick.

I think they both have a role to play. GMS seemed to improve for us during the season. He was getting stuck in more and tracking back a lot harder. His experience should be an asset this season, as well. Gino, as previous posters have said, looks far better playing through the middle than he does on the wing.

We could have always signed a 36yrs old ex Sunderland player on a 1yr contract.

Whilst we can’t clone Rudi i do feel the team needs a similar quality of player to push us on. A talismanic player who can unlock the inevitable 10 man defences we see most teams employing at Tynie (and sometimes at their grounds) against us.

Unfortunately, just like John Robertson, we are unlikely to see the likes of Rudi again. We can live in hope though.

Imagine if we had had the 2 of them in the same team.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sibbick after a full pre-season. Came straight into our first team having not played since November (?)... it was always going to be difficult for him. Has pace to burn also.

Agree. When Gino is in the mood he can be unplayable at times. However he is completely anonymous when not.
