Russia Invades Ukraine

Yeah I bet fags blow up ammo dumps all the time. Luckily it's not happening in any of ours though. Anywhere. Maybe Russians are all chain smokers, and have millions of looted fags. Drunk on looted vodka.

Interesting to see if Putin's Government can deal with an internal terrorist campaign now.

This sort of thing has happened before though in last 20 years it has been difficult to distinguish actual terrorist attacks from Government actions to strengthen power and isolate opponents by faking terrorist attacks.

This doesn't seem to be fake but need more attacks to confirm.

The recent pics and reports seem to suggest a quite astonishing turnaround in military fortunes.  Ukraine now reclaiming some of the lost territory and giving the invaders a series of bloody noses in Crimea

One big worry though must be how Putin reacts to what seems to be a seriously stuttering campaign. He's already a war criminal, if only for disregarding warnings from his senior military and sending thousands of young troops into Ukraine under false pretences - the civilian atrocities most likely  put it beyond all doubt.

If he's staring military failure in its face, what's his plan B ?   And does it involve the N word ?

Nuclear N*****s from Moscow sounds like the title of a Tarantino film, TBF.

Back on topic, I don't think Russia has the balls to start launching nuclear weapons. They've seen how NATO, in a very controlled yet effective way, have propped up Ukraine and are unlikely to press the self-destruct button. More likely that there's some kind of internal purge and the likes of Macron and the German bloke slowly getting oor Vlad back onto the straight and narrow. Russia will remain semi-pariah, but a market that big is too juicy for the multinationals for long.

Thats an interesting take on it, Jonesy.     But after the upheaval & crisis  he's caused throughout Europe, its hard to imagine the smaller EU countries in the east being happy to see Macron giving Putin a big conciliatory hug.        The question of  when (or if) to re-habilitate a post-Putin Russia into "normal relations" might be a source of  trouble for the EU, admittedly.

Scholz and Macron have been holding onto as middle a ground as they could throughout all of this for a reason.

Indeed, although possibly each of them has a slightly different reason.

Nordstream pipeline + German military reluctance + Merkel's  diplomatic legacy with Putin  =  Scholz continuity as honest broker with Russia.

Macron is pretty unpopular domestically, so probably feels he needs to rely on  being an  international opportunist.

Shitehawk Stalin avoids having to perform an official and embarrassing general call-up by simply increasing the size of the army by 137,000.

It's not a mobilisation, just more army jobs available, innit guv.

The invaders have also disconnected the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant from the Ukrainian national grid and are now working to hook it up to the Russian one.

I may remind you that this nuclear plant is very much on the front lines.

Worrying times. Article 5 could be triggered if these ******s cause a meltdown and explosion of that plant.

Guess work but I think if they can liberate Kherson then the Ukraine army will go into the winter and take significant territory back.

We saw how the cold weather hindered the Russian invasion, when the cold weather kicks in again I suspect they will struggle.

UKR has nearly isolated the Russian forces in the area over the last month, along with "Accidents" at Russian air bases and ammo dumps in the same period it would appear it was all part of the prelude to a major offence..GL to them. It won't end the war but a push back pre Winter is required as we all saw how badly the Russians were in moving units in Winter.

Russia recalling air defence systems from Syria to bolster their Ukraine front.

They're running out of gear due to sanctions and battlefield losses.

Hagar the Horrible

I like Zelensky, he uses his words carefully  "Russians must flee if the want to survive"  I would have said you going home in a body bag, or sang like the 70's  "your goona get your ******* heads kicked in"

Seriously this new offensive, needs to be sustained and it will gather momentum.  The Russians have lost too many leaders at the coal face, and once there is a lack of communication chaos ensues.  Then once all supplies get cut off, its game over.

Whats next is once the russians eventualy do retreat to their own borders, will they just keep launching missiles into civilian areas ad-infinitem?  Its easy to take land not easy to keep it

I would suggest a slower offensive and deplete the Russian army to the point they cannot be considered a threat any more, and Putin must not be allowed to save face, we did that with Hussain in GW1, he was able to spin it he had won.

Also once the russian have gone over the border the next step must be to let Ukraine join NATO so they cant shell from distance

This is what Ukraine are doing.

Regardles of the outcome, i dont think Ukraine will ever join Nato. Joining the EU will be the best outcome for them. Russia wont like it but its far more favourable to them than Ukraine in Nato.

I think both sides will be trying to take or hold as much territory as they can over the next 6 weeks or so, because when winter sets in I don't think there'll be a great deal of movement from either side, which will also give negotiations a chance over the winter months, if no settlement then it's back to blasting the crap out of each other come the spring.

Ukraine firing dummy rockets to draw fire from Russian defences

Ukraine has been firing dummy rockets to draw fire from Russian defences, according to the Washington Post.

Troops have been launching the fake HIMAR weapons to encourage Russian ships to fire its expensive long-range missiles needlessly.

At least 10 Russian missiles have been fired at the wooden rockets, a source told the paper.

There have also been fake soldiers (scarecrows) deployed, as well as wooden tanks made, in an effort to fool invading soldiers.

 superb thinking.

A ghost army has worked many times in the past, most notably during WWII prior to D-Day, when there was thousands of fake tanks, planes, barracks, boats etc etc etc, it fooled the Germans well enough.

This type of thing is actually quite modern, fake equipment is often scattered around the battlefield to create false information.  Part of Russian tactical doctrine encouraged commanders to included a “feint” on all their tactical operations.

No chance of negotiations currently.

What is the proposed settlement?

There was a video on Twitter a couple of weeks ago of a Russian  officer talking proudly of his newly delivered rocket systems  - which could be seen gently swaying in the wind behind him.

Needs saying that its the Russian orthodox church - whove been seen spraying holy water on Russian tanks.

The Russian church was raging at the Ukraine orthodox church for their break from Russian orthodoxy  even before the war started.

Kremlin-appointed Kherson leader has fled to Russia – reports

A Moscow-installed leader of occupied Kherson has reportedly fled to Russia, one day after Kyiv announced it had begun its long-awaited counter attack aimed at taking back the southern region from Russian forces.

Kirill Stremousov, who was appointed deputy head of the Russian-backed Kherson military-civilian administration, has published regular video updates to state-owned Russian news outlets and his Telegram account.

But a Ukrainian activist, Serhii Sternenko, has claimed Stremousov is no longer in Kherson and has instead been filming his recent video updates somewhere near the Cathedral of Annunciation in Voronezh in Russia, which can be seen in the background.

Voronezh is almost 500 miles from Kherson and about 120 miles from the border with Ukraine.

Apparently Kirill Stremousov translates into Scots as "Johnny Cope."

On a selfish note, is it better for one side to win and thus bring this war to an end?  Thinking of energy prices for example.
