SPFL confirm we will shut down over the Qatar world Cup

If Scotland don't qualify then what is the need?

Also, isn't 17th Dec about the right time for the Scottish Government put in their Covid restrictions again?  Can't add another winter shutdown or the season would never complete.

Presumably this will also count as the "mid-winter" break.

We surely won't play Dec 24th and/or 26th, 29th and NY derbies then close down again.

Scottish clubs have foreign players who may be playing for their country in the WC

Only two such clubs matter though. Both clubs have huge squads and could easily field a decent first team without their WC stars.      Presumably the SPFL think that by NOT having the break at the time of the WC, it would hand a "competitive     advantage"  to everyone else ?   :whistling:     If Scotland don't qualify, this decision for a 4 week break needs to be explained.  Hopefully Tom English is on the case,

It would be interesting to know with the exception of the old firm how many players playing in Scotland's top flight will be at the world cup in Qatar.

The rules at the moment are if you have 3 or more players on international duty at the same time you can ask for a postponement, they should leave this rule in place while the world cup is on and then anyone who has 3 or more at the world cup can have their match rescheduled.

However if Scotland qualify they should have a break during the Qatar world cup just for the sake of Hearts 😁, feck playing for 5 weeks without Craig Gordon.

Its also important to note that the games resume the day BEFORE the world cup final,  hope we dont make it,  no CG

But I guess the SPFL have taken into consideration that we will Hibs it either during qualification or losing the group games again

I'm sure the powers that be are already drawing up plans to start the season a week early and extend the end to the beginning of June.

A hectic Chrimbo period will be on also !

I think the break is up to and including the 17th.

Premier League to resume either on Christmas Eve, or more likely, Boxing day.

Yeh, imagine selecting a Country where the average temp in the summer is between 36/43°C to host the World Cup, and then being forced to move said tournament to November/ December because its to hot in the summer.

It gives you an idea of the level of corruption that was actually in play when making the decision.

Exactly, can’t wait to see the dates, Xmas eve, Boxing Day, 29th, 1/2nd and 5th 🤦🏽. I doubt the uglies will be happy if they have numerous players away then back to that. I hope we have nobody there.

I am not a fan of this World Cup.... When you think about the human toll involved in preparing for this tournament serious questions need to be asked about why this has been allowed to go ahead.

The lack of comment for football authorities or players is shocking.... anyone taking a knee for this or is it not trendy enough?

Yup. Something worth booing about.

Disgraceful ...

Yet they want to do it every two years, in similar places.

Hard to be sympathetic for FA that are corrupt as ours and vote in corrupt officials, likewise the millionaires who play the game.
Nothing to do with protesting for human equality, the disgusting things happening in Qatar which is linked to this  or what you feel is trendy.

Any clubs in Europe are already doing this regularly. It sounds a lot but it's basically just the equivalent of 2 midweek games e.g. Sat/Wed/Sat/Wed/Sat = 5 games in 15 days.

Did you miss the bit where i said these atrocities are linked to the same issues? Mainly folk being treated differently, it’s a fight for equality for everyone.

It’s not over the holidays when crowds are down usually apparently but it’s a good point, both are a bit extreme.
