The Greatest Football Club Name

So, for almost 50 years I've believed that there's no greater football club name than Heart of Midlothian. Then I pick up the latest issue of When Saturday Comes, there's an article on the American Soccer League in season 1926-27 and there's teams called:

Springfield Babes

Fall River Marksmen

Boston Wonder Workers

Providence Clamdiggers

Newark Skeeters

Indiana Flooring

None as good as Heart of Midlothian but all better than Motherwell or Dundee or Kilmarnock or Cowdenbeath........

Heart of Midlothian is easily the best, followed in second place by Queen of the South.

There is none better than the Heart of Midlothian. Personal favourites are Inverness Clachnacuddin and Burntisland Shipyard.

A truly bizarre one is a former South African team that I’m won’t even type on here but it’s utterly baffling.

Utterly bizarre, and confirms that world has gone mad when you can't bring yourself to type a name! If you must ,put it I  inverted commas FFS!

Played for a pub team in Ipswich. The pub was The Eight Bells and was owned by an Italian boy. He called the football team Otto Campanelli which was hard to say whilst half pished on a Sunday morning 👍🏻

Oh, and I always liked Albion Rovers, it's like being called City United or something.

A “Rover” is:

a person who spends their time wandering.
"they became rovers who departed further and further from civilization"

Which got me thinking anout rangers. A “Ranger “ is:
a person in charge of managing and protecting part of a public forest. : a person in charge of managing and protecting part of a national park. : a soldier in the U.S. Army who has special training especially in fighting at close range.

What shite names!

Aye!

Never really thought about it, but aye!

I found out something today, I didn't know Hull's not a place, it's a river.

The place is called Kingston upon Hull, and the team is called Hull City.

Always liked Lokomotive Leipzig.

Not as good as Heart of Midlothian obviously.

That was the Eastern bloc industry team thing, the Lokomotivs were railworker teams, the CSKAs were army teams, and the Dynamos were the state security structure, KGB, that type of thing
