Recommended Posts

Been going through my 2021 playlist and whittled it down with a blunt hammer to come up with the following 12 songs; a 12 songs of Christmas Misery that would put a dampener on any post work wine and cheese gathering.

Anyway, what's everyone's best of the year?

1. Arab Strap - Fable of the Urban Fox

2. Low - Hey

3. Anz - You Could Be

4. Grandbrothers - Organism

5. Pale Blue Eyes - Chelsea

6. Manic Street Preachers - Orwellian

7. Tallies - No Dreams of Fayres

8. Deafheaven - Mombasa

9. Daniel Avery - Hazel & Gold

10. Hard Feelings  - Running Out of Time

11. Audiobooks - The Doll

12. Superstate - Yoga Town

Island Boys I'm presuming is 13?

Never heard of them. Are they better than the London Boys? Actually, sorry stupid question of course they won't be.

Hardly seem to buy new releases these days :(

I loved the Bicep, Low and Saint Etienne albums.

The biggest disappointment for me was probably the Damon Albarn album. Love his stuff normally but found the latest album hard to get through.

I'm officially old.

 I usually feel the same but I think this year I've actually been pretty on the ball with modern music. Although I haven't heard of a single one of these tracks or albums in this thread.

Ha to be fair, I am in a job where at home or office I can listen to music all day and have 6 music on most days. Was trying to avoid listening to the same old stuff but my end of year stats still topped by the same old bands!

Superstate btw is a solo project of Graham Coxon of Blur

I have been to see an Edinburgh Indie band recently but only because my nephews are in it, I went upstairs with all the old codgers in the Liquid rooms.

I forgot Snail Mail had a 2nd album out

Also We Were Promised Jetpacks - not sure I liked it as much as the previous stuff though. 🤔

The Low album is fantastic, even surpassed Double Negative for me which was a great album.

Saint Etienne was a departure for them but was really good.

Not listened to Damon Albarn album yet, will give it a whirl.

Would add Walking at a Downtown Pace by Parquet Courts to that list.

Haven't heard this before but like that a lot. The bassline is great and reminds me of the Fall which is a good thing.

You've accidentally missed out Elton John and Dua Lipa.

Judging by these lists, I'm ****ing ancient. Haven't heard of most of these. I thought snail mail was some kind of post.

I really like If It Happens off the new album. Agree prefer the earlier albums though

I don't think a question of age, it's where you listen really. I avoid almost all radio stations bar 6Music and Vic Galloway on Radio Scotland and none of the stuff I like would trouble the charts these days
