Malinga the Swinga
Simple enough task for England tomorrow. Bat all day, stop crumbling and get a draw. Pitch isn't full of demons, get in line, play on front foot and leave outside off stump. Don't go into all out defence and block, just play sensible 5th day test match cricket. Think Australia missing Hazelwood, what team wouldn't, and for them Lyon needs to step up and get a few wickets. He hasn't been required so far in series, but tomorrow may be the day. Malinga the Swinga
Well they managed to get a draw. Australia really missed Hazelwood and for first time, they couldn't cover up his absence. Leach might be awful spin bowler at test level, but he's decent at blocking. From that team, you can keep Crawley, Root & Stokes. Rest of batting is hopeless. Bairstow played well in this game, but overall, he's more miss than hit and can't be relied on. The bowlers are different. They can't keep relying on Anderson & Broad, as they are getting on a bit, but whose going to replace them? Reckon if Hazelwood is back for 5th test, then we will see a 4-0. Kennedy Bakircioglu
Thought England did excellently today, and for large parts, across the whole Test. Great resilience from Bairstow, Crawley, Broad, Leach to perform so well with the stick they have taken over the past few weeks. Pope and Billings are decent players and if come in, England may not miss the influence of the injured players. I think it will be a competitive fifth Test under lights and with the pink ball. Leach is in team to get wickets though and he isn't capable of doing that. He barely threatens and if England want to get better, away from green swinging wickets, they need spin bowler who can turn ball. Bairstow has had so many chances and isn't a test match standard batsman. Unless he's keeping, and he isn't good enough at that, he can't be picked. Mikey1874
There has been a lot of focus on the batting. But England haven't been able to compete due to limitations in their bowling on the hard Australian pitches. Wood and Woakes hammered for 112 runs in 20 overs after Australia were briefly in trouble. Joe Root bowling rubbish. Competitive at least just now. Malinga the Swinga
Congratulations to England. Having reduced Australia to 12/3, they then allowed them to reach 240 odd for 6 at close of play. Special mention to Wood who was smashed everywhere, I know he got last wicket, and allowed Australia to get momentum that was needed. Not sure if England just pull names out of hat when picking side, but their ability to constantly pick wrong bowling attack is spectacular. The most depressing day of tour so far apparently, which given how it has gone, is some description. Footballfirst
17 wickets fell today. Worst case scenario for England is for them to bowl the Aussies out around tea, then for their top order to face the Aussie quicks under the lights. Could be carnage once again. Stat of the day. England's average 1st wicket partnership in the series is 12.8. Australia's average 10th wicket partnership in the series is 14.

Footballfirst
Personally, I found the series to be disappointing. Unusually for Australia, the wickets tended to favour the bowlers rather than the batsmen. England's inability to bat for any length of time was stark. While they failed to reach 300 in any of their 10 innings, they were unable to reach 200 in 7 of those 10. Individually, Australia's batsmen produced five centuries to England's one. Australia's bowlers were also much more consistent, with Cummins, Starc and Boland taking most wickets, all three ahead of Wood, who was followed by Lyon and Green. Australia even had the luxury of playing Lyon exclusively as a batsman in the final test. How England can improve is anyone's guess. Root may have captained the side for the last time, but he is still their only world class batsman. Foakes needs to come in as the best wicket keeper in the country. Anderson may have played his last test and I can't see Broad lasting much longer. They have too many players who are more suited to limited overs cricket rather than five day tests. Head got player of the series, but I thought Boland's contribution was exceptional. Three tests produced a return of 18 for 172 at an average of 9.55, including his astonishing 6 for 7 at Melbourne. Malinga the Swinga
Wood bowled well in second innings but he can only play 1 test in three or he gets injured. Jimmy and Broad must be nearing end of test careers and why risk body when batsmen can't be arsed digging in and grafting. Humiliation really for the lot of them, and another Ashes tour goes where Root can't get century in Australia. He's England's best batsman by mile, but he is never a captain and if he doesn't give the captaincy up, it could destroy him mentally. Root has said he wants to continue as captain but he looks weak in the field and just doesn't seem to have the authority to have a go at the openers for not batting like they should as Test openers. Ben Stokes seems the only alternative to Root right now as he would definitely kick some ass but given the fact that he is rarely fully fit, it's maybe not that great an option at all. England, right now, are in a hole.

Tazio
So the commentators spent ages before the start telling us what an amazing white ball team England are and nobody in the world can get near them. 3 wickets gone in the first 2 overs and now on 39-6 after 10.
