Let's face it, they all do pretty much the same stuff.

iOS works smoother but android has far more you can **** about with.

Aesthetics Vs fiddling - I'll go for fiddling every time, but at the end of the day if you fancy a change, it isn't that big a step, go by your feels

My own phones have all been Android but I was given iPhones by work. Always found the iPhone to be slightly more frustrating - less intuitive. Now my smart TVs are Samsung, I wouldn't move away as I've got my phone and TVs speaking to each other. They seem to get on quite well.

Always had Android. Apple stuff always gives me the impression it's going to break apart. Prefer the range of phones with Android also some gave great AI.

If you are happy I wouldn’t get sucked into the Android myth. For most people both operating systems will be more than adequate. The whole you can do so much more on android really isn’t a thing. If you are not precious either way I’d go with whatever phone you can get on the best deal. Having used both IPhone works best for us as a family so have stuck with that. The quality of the phones, operating system and apps from Apple are not up for debate.

I do agree that both will cover your basic needs but it's not a myth that you can do more on Android.

Something as simple as the option of an SD card slot for expandable storage or headphone socket is important to some. You can change messaging app easily, change what you like really. The Google Play store has far fewer restrictions and therefore many more apps, plus the OS is accessible.

You can also get a decent android phone much cheaper than an iPhone with a range of price points also available if you feel flusher.

But, if none of that's important and you're happy with what you've got, I'd probably stay on Apple myself.

I’d forgot about the expandable storage tbh although I guess that’s not as big an issue like in previous years as the new iPhones are 128gigs - I’m unlikely to fill that.

I have an iPhone for personal use, a Samsung Galaxy for work.

The iPhone and it's software ecosystems just work really well. I find the Android phone a little bit more frustrating to use, the software feels a bit more rough round the edges.

We see all phone operating systems expanding and phones becoming sluggish to use over time.  I found the Android phone to be more "meh" to use after 12-18months compared to iPhone.

I'm changing over to a new iPhone this week, my current iPhone is an iPhone XS which is now 3 years old. Compared to previous generations my iPhone hasn't fallen off a cliff in terms of performance.

Probably true, but it is handy  and storage needs only ever go in one direction. My phone has 128gb with no SD yet, but I'm actually getting close to needing one - better cameras need more storage

The bit in bold is a fair summary, apple is undeniably more polished

I'm on Giffgaff mate. I bought the phone sim free and pay £10 p/m for unlimited texts, unlimited minutes and 12GB of data.

Sod paying £50 p/m for 2-3 years

I’ve looked at them before aye. Vodafone include Spotify and I’d be lost without that these days…I’ll check giff gaff tho 👍🏼

People get stuck in the Apple ecosystem Phone, iPads, Macs, Watches. Those devices all speak amazingly with each other but have either No or very reduced compatibility with Android alternatives (See Apple Watch paired with Android phone for example). Whereas you'll find Androids all interact really well with a whole range of devices, and you can mix and match Brands, Samsung, Garmin, OnePlus etc.

You'll never have an issue sticking to the Apple Eco system but I've heard so many people make the switch and much prefer Android. Just don't expect to be able to have the same experience with your other Apple products when you switch though.

I don't think it is much of an issue anymore. Can just use iCloud.

It is a myth in respect of actually using the more things you can actually do. SD card ? 😂 Who uses them these days and why would you ? Cloud storage whether that is ios or android has pretty much made local storage redundant. Message app ? iMessage or WhatsApp cover everyone’s needs. You can definitely get cheap Android phones though.  Not sure the op wants a cheap android phone though.

I moved over from Apple to Samsung a number of years ago and haven't went back. The switch tool made it seamless.

So dead easy? This is a Samsung tool or any android?

Apple like to make simple things hard. Even the simple things like needing to use a lightning cable instead of USB.  I'm actually a little bit shocked that people still buy Apple products in their droves. Every Apple product I've had is in a drawer (should be in landfill) not working.

I've had both. I prefer android now.

As above, **** contracts. I pay 10-15 a month on giff gaff and get more than enough data. Just buy a phone outright, it is cheaper in the long run in my experience and if it breaks then you're not left paying up a contract.

I think they both have a flavour to make it easy. I used Samsung's Smart Switch.

Do you really want/need to store your photos on a phone?

It may get lost/stolen.

It may breakdown and get corrupted.

I assume you probably have cloud storage.

No real need to clog up your phone with photos. No?

My point, unsafe keeping your photos on phone with backup

Why no backup? Guarantee the phone will come with cloud storage as well.

Last post was meant to read "unsafe keeping your photos on phone without backup"

You mentioned that your phone was needing more storage due to amount of photos.

My phone has 128gb with no SD yet, but I'm actually getting close to needing one - better cameras need more storage

I just dont want anyone losing photos. Having lost photos on a failed laptop in the past.

You have instant access to your photos in a cloud, so no need to keep on your phone and risk losing.

Smithee, your a smart dude, I am teaching my granny to suck eggs.

Some people arent so smart

I have cloud backup. I also have a phone approaching full.

There's no good argument against expandable storage.

My last two phones have been the pixel 3 and the pixel 5. They're the best phones I've had.

I get iphones for work and I find them incredibly frustrating. So if you like your iphone you may find the android frustrating. Fortunately with android anything that frustrates you can mostly be changed to suit how you want it.

Why clog your phone with photos that you can open/show from a cloud?

No real need to waste cash on expandable storage, which imo is prone to corrupting.

Why worry about clogging my phone?

I have a whole bunch of other stuff too, including multi track recordings from n-track, offline videos and music, looaads of apps.

I have a bunch of offline stuff because I'm often offline.

But again, as I said, if the things I listed aren't a factor then I'd probably stick with apple 🤷‍♂️

I’ve always used Apple products and never had any problems. I bought an Android tablet not so long ago just to check it out and couldn’t get in with it at all. It’s all about what you’re used to but I find the quality of the Apple hardware better as well as liking the software. My work is all Windows computers apart from my department as I need Apple for the specialist software I use and can’t remember the last problem I had with any of it and we depend 100% on it being bombproof.

I prefer android, I've had them since smart phones came out apart from when I got a iPhone 5c but I found it difficult to get used to it. Stick with what you know, you will think Android is shit and end up getting a iPhone anyway because your used to the way they work.
