Collapsed on pitch last night , Thankfully was conscience when stretchered from pitch to hospital ! Wish him a full and speedy recovery.

In the days of sports science etc we seeing this kind of thing more these days unfortunately, i can't ever remember this sort of thing back in the day when we didn't have all this sports science , players watching what they were eating etc.

I was wondering about this after reading it.  Is this sort of thing actually happening more often, or is it just that we're hearing about it more than we used to?  With social media present at every level of football including training sessions and player's personal downtime, and broadcasting of more matches than ever, is it just that it's easier than ever to find out about every thing that happens at all times?  I remember players collapsing and things happening in games even 20 years ago, it's just you didn't get to hear every little detail as soon as it happened.

What may have been a private and internal club affair is now out on Twitter within seconds of happening, not helped by the fact that the general public cannot wait to get pictures up, even of horrible accidents, for a handful of digital likes.  I doubt many people would like to admit that they've had a health scare, but when it's not your choice, it's hard to keep private.

It could also be that maintaining an athlete's body 24/7 just isn't for everybody, and we're pushing people harder than ever above their limits.

The answer probably lies somewhere in between.

He had previously been admitted to hospital in February, so he may have underlying issues.
Speculation about vaccines is ridiculous.

Players bodies are pushed to their absolute limits these days. They’re not machines and inevitably some can’t cope.

It's not right to speculate on what happened here, but your second paragraph is certainly true

Two factors why I think it seems more prevalent:

1) we'll hear very quickly about every incident now

2) football players are pushed significantly further than in the past, both in terms of volume of games but also intensity, which is more likely to trigger underlying issues.

Tom Hardy’s Dug

The anti-vax crowd that have jumped on this couldn’t be more wrong I don’t think

When what happened to Eriksen happened there was an interview with one of the specialist consultant doctors who looked after the players at Spurs when Eriksen was there. He said that as far as he was concerned, from knowing Eriksen well medically, that something must have changed since he last looked at him.

It was speculation but he then said that nobody knows the long term effects of catching covid - even if you are young and get it without symptoms initially - on the body long term, as it is a virus that attacks the body’s organs and myocarditis (inflammation of the heart) looks like it may be a longer term risk arising from Covid.

John Fleck at Sheffield United, Adama Traore at Sheriff, now Charlie Wyke at Wigan all collapsed in the space of a week.

I don't think iv ever heard of as many elite level athletes collapsing as often.

I think its Due to myocarditis which is being caused by the vaccines or having covid will effect everyone differently but this is happening in footballers far too often recently

Players complain that they are being forced to play too much, and the organisations only care about money and not their health.

Players in the leagues that play some of the most games in the world start collapsing/having health issues.

If only someone said something, oh wait…

If it’s to do with the vaccine, we’d be hearing lots about it in different sport, but it seems to be primarily a football issue.

Inter Milan confirmed that Eriksen had never had covid, or been vaccinated.

Walter Bishop

There needs to be some sort of urgent enquiry, Whether it is covid-19, Vaccines or being overworked, there is definitely something going on that needs investigated.

Personally i think covid recovery in Athletes needs to be looked at, being diagnosed and resting for 10 days before throwing yourself back into a sport like football maybe is to much too ask and a longer rest period is required.

The speculation is horrible. Every single incident of illness or death in the media at the moment is being blamed on the vaccine.

The prescribing of Ivermectin has seen C19 cases virtually eliminated in Japan.

Why are we not hearing about this on the BBC?

Because it's absolutely not true, and a simple Google search will tell you that.

Ivermectin is not an approved medicine for use in Japan in the treatment of Covid-19:

Why do people spout this kind of pish, without even looking to see if it's remotely correct...?

I had mentioned this also but i realised he’s probably aware of it and using Eriksen as an example for Fleck’s situation as fleck tested positive for covid.

Because to them critical thinking is being spoon fed conspiracies and agendas rather than fact checking.

Honestly, it's just getting on my tits now, and it's not just about Covid. Just about any topic will have someone spreading absolute shite about it, in a very matter-of-fact manner. Social media not only has provided a platform for people to shout their nonsense, but the way it displays content means that you are far more likely to "rabbit hole" and continue to see more and more related content within an echo chamber.  This leads to things like the original quoted post: complete and utter pish being spread.

If I was to make a claim about something objective, I would damn well make sure that I was correct before posting it.

****ing hell, I Google the spelling of words I know I've typed correctly in emails before hitting send

In the "fake news" digital age, I just wish people would engage a hint of grey matter before posting or sharing something.

You are absolutely bang on. I saw a video the other day of a lassie saying the Romans weren't real. Hadrian's wall was actually a road built by someone else I believe. Had loads of videos detailing her thoughts. It blew my mind 😂

I may be wrong but I don’t think he is, played for Rangers when he was 16 and Rangers fans had been talking about him for years before hand labelling him the “Scottish Rooney”, sure his uncle also played for them.

Aye, I don't remember him ever being with Hearts as a boy.

Yes he was in our team that won the Milk Cup that year and he talked excitedly about signing his first contract with Hearts after the summer when travelling back from it.  However Hearts never saw him again as his family wanted him to sign his first pro contract for Rangers.

Cheers for that, every day is a school day. I always assumed he had spent all his youth career at Rangers and there's nothing online about him ever being with Hearts as a kid.

His mum and dad stay in Yoker/Knightswood, about 200 yards from my in-laws. They've never moved house despite John obviously being worth a few bob.
