Hope anyone attending this morning wraps up well.

Surely Ann will do that in her closing remarks?

Maybe I’m missing something …. has covid ridden Scotland locked-down? Three families allowed inside together? Has all hospitality at Tynecastle been closed? What about pubs are they closed? Is it a ruse to avoid questions at the AGM or another Wee Nic boot in the footballs?

Because there is no or very little economic support it's been left to the people to be less sociable basically.

Has there been any mention about the Presentation/Q&A when it will happen?

Hearts stressed they wanted it in January but were waiting for restrictions to ease. This has since happened but still not see anything. Anyone know when its happening?

https://www.heartsfc.co.uk/news/article/confirmation-of-agm-details

The 115th Annual General Meeting of Heart of Midlothian plc is due to be held on Thursday December 16th in the Gorgie Suite (the “AGM”).

We advised on Tuesday that we would confirm the AGM arrangements post the First Ministers announcement. The rapid spread of the Omicron variant is concerning and the wellbeing of our shareholders and staff must be our first priority. Today, the First Minister has asked that we all reduce as far as possible the mixing of people from different households.

We have, therefore, made the difficult decision to deal only with formal business at the AGM on Thursday. The formal business should take no more than 10 – 15 minutes and we will relocate the meeting from the Gorgie Suite to the Main Stand. This will help to reduce the mixing of people from different households in line with the First Minister’s request but, importantly, still allow Shareholders who have not exercised a proxy vote (and for those that have been issued a proxy by others to vote on their behalf) to vote, in a location that allows for plenty of ventilation and the ability to socially distance.

The presentation and Q&A element of the AGM will be held before the end of January, in person if restrictions allow or virtually depending on the COVID situation at that time. The rapid onset and spread of the variant means we have been unable to put in place a virtual solution that would allow the interactivity we know is an important part of the meeting in time for Thursday. We will be working on the best technical solution for this as a matter of urgency, however the preference will be to hold this meeting in person before the end of January - if it is safe to do so.

Registration will be via South Turnstiles 27 - 36 in the Main Stand. We would request that unless you are medically exempt you also wear a mask at all times while inside the Stadium to protect yourself and those around you. As per the First Minister’s announcement we encourage all who attend the AGM to take a lateral flow test that morning to protect them and all others who attend.

This decision was not taken lightly and we very much look forward to sharing the presentations and having an open dialogue with shareholders in January. We appreciate your understanding and hope you and your families stay safe.

Any idea when the Q&A session will happen?

No idea.

The delay in scheduling these sessions gives the impression that neither the club nor FOH thinks that there is any immediate need for their Boards' decisions, actions, or accounts to be scrutinised by the shareholders/members. Given that the shareholders/members were denied a similar opportunity at the previous AGM, you would think that it would be a priority in terms of openness and transparency.

I am quite surprised they have not organised anything considering when they announced the Q&A would not happen at the AGM, they really stressed how they want that to go ahead as soon as possible and that it would be done before the end of January if restrictions were lifted in time.

Agree with you it is not a good look for the club and board of directors, when they are not having a session where they can be held accountable by shareholders, especially as you say previous AGMs have not been able to have that due to Covid.

The Q&A and presentation is also enjoyable to see insight into more long term plans with the club (especially off the pitch.)

I hope the club do address this and arrange a new Q&A.

Agreed

is it worth formally asking the club?

if so, who do we contact?

As I am not a shareholder, I cant go, but will be fascinated to hear what info comes from it.

I bet they are relieved they picked this week rather than two weeks ago. All in the timing. 😄

I would normally attend but away on a wee holiday at the moment. Be interested to see any slides and hear about what is said though.

I know what you mean. Though I think its also better for the Q&A that its not come at a time of poor results, as the danger is that is all the questions will be about. And allows questions that focus on the business and wider issues.

Nothing earth shattering. Finances are in a good place despite the Covid impact, big screens should be in place by early next season, 2nd floor fit out will commence in Q4 (not sure if that's Q4 in the financial or calendar year), turnstiles in Wheatfield and Gorgie will be automated and planning underway for VAR and 150th anniversary.

Did they say what the plan was for the 2nd floor?

No, they wouldn't give any detail until final board approval.

More hospitality, conference rooms for use on non-match days, plus a “twist for our fans” was what she said. Plans will be finalised at next board meeting. Spending to start soon and be finished by this time next year. I suspect another fans bar but she wasn’t ready to share.

Focus to be on individuals rather than teams at later stages of academy. Hoping for a reserve league next season or maybe Lowland league but have been excluded from that so far. Naismith and Forest working on the player development plans.

Thanks, will be interesting so what that means in practice. Does make sense that if you want the best talent to come through then its better to give focus on them.

Have you ever been to a Shareholders Dinner ?  Bill Alves who usually host's the proceedings often comments at the end of the night that it is time for everyone to go back to their Care Homes 😍

That’s the plan. Aimed specifically at getting players ready for first team. Also going to be tougher in future - telling kids they will be good enough to make a living from the game, just not with Hearts.

He was asking questions today. Took about 30 mins when 15 would have sufficed.

Stuff I picked up on today

Finances in good shape

Plan in place to repay debt to AB by November 24, loan is at very favourable rates.
Savage has covid

Cup final defeat severely dented teams confidence and was still a factor when Brora came round

Budge comments - ‘strongest off-field team in Scottish football’ ‘terrific football management team’

Big screens early next season

Second floor finished within a year

Fully automated turnstiles in all stands by summer

VAR and 150th anniversary events currently in the planning phase

Deloitte review presented to SPFL, sub-committee formed, McKinlay on it

Didn’t seem excited about standing  area

UEFA income next season will be min £4m, max £8m if we get into group stages

Have a plan to replace Souttar, looking for two more centre-backs

Expect to make serious money from player trading in near future

Hope to have Reserve league next season, Lowland league not really an option at the moment but could change

Haymarket war memorial is 100 years old on 9/4, same day as we play Hibs. Club plan to do something to recognise this

Happy to keep old firm at reduced ticket levels next season as long as Hearts fans keep buying tickets

7 years left on lease at Oriam

Was very impressed by McKinlay today. Seemed to have his finger on the pulse and answered most of the questions without hesitation. Certainly what you would expect from a CEO on top of his game.

£ eight million I propose we pay of our debt and use the rest to offer Jamie Walker a bumper ten year deal and anything left over we use on mindfulness space where we can teach our players the desire needed to win the league and be better than the old firm.
