John souttar

If Soapy decides to move on I reckon we have an ideal replacement in Taylor Moore. There's the added carrot that, were he playing regularly (and hopefully well) for Hearts, there is no reason why he couldn't force his way into Steve Clarke's plans as he has a Scottish grandad. Just need Joe Savage to persuade him it'd be a good move.

We’ve more chance of Souttar signing a new deal than Moore being here next season. Celtic want Souttar as well as a few clubs down south and at this point I’d be astonished if he signed a new deal.

Except that Moore hasn't said he's interested in staying a Hearts. And he may very well be heading back to Bristol.

Can't imagine how overloaded our medical dept was for a year or two back then. We were definitely guilty of signing too many players with niggles or not match fit which didn't help, even giving someone like Aidy White who was basically out of the game through injury a place to build fitness for a comeback which must have taken up Physio time and resources.

What is noticeable about recruitment this time is we signed fit players. Obviously some needed to build fitness but only one player had injury doubts surrounding them - Ginnelly - so you'd assume staff could focus on him to get him back instead of being spread too thin.

I don't mean to pile on Levein but I think he was particularly bad about this. The whole running the whole squad up the dunes before the season thing seemed great from an old time football perspective, but those seasons we had injuries pile up shortly after the season started. The speed of the game has increased and its harder on players bodies. The other extreme, Cathro, who didn't seem to think it was necessary to do much athletic training outside of games, isn't great either, but I do think Levein pushed players hard and rushed them back and it cost us dearly.

It's just our luck that we give a shorter contract to guys that turn out to be good, like Devlin and Souttar, but then get our fingers burnt giving longer contracts to duds like Martin and Damour! It must be so hard for the club to know what length of contract to offer.

When injuries are concerned that’s true, but Savage and his team wouldn’t offer Neilson some of the absolute garbage we’ve been lumbered with, that’s down to Levein and Murray’s sheer incompetence.

Is Moores deal only until January? Could be a Jimmy dunne situation again.

No it’s a year like Dunnes, loans all have a break clause in January where either team can end the loan.

It’s a good point about Taylor Moore, he seems to be well out of the picture at Bristol City. You would imagine Pearson prefers a more blood n guts CH but they’re 19th in the table and he might be replaced by someone more progressive who likes CHs that can play.

Scotland qualifying for the World Cup could have a bearing on his decision. If we qualify and Souttar continues his form for Hearts and stays injury free, he is almost guaranteed a spot in the squad. If he moves to a team in the Championship he might take a while to adjust to the league, new manager may come in etc and could jeopardise his place in the team.

Actually it's brilliant news for us if Stoke are in his thoughts.

They will pay more in January to get him early.

Nah.

His, decision will be financially based imo.

All about the money.

Hope we've offered him a decent contract but I wouldn't make him a top earner or break the bank.

Excellent player but we need to get value for money as we don't have loads of it. Spending a (relative) fortune on someone who's been a passenger for large chunks of his time here isn't wise.

English championship clubs can afford that gamble, we can't.

Hopefully he accepts whatever we've offered as he's a cracking player.

If he doesn't then, he doesn't and we'll move on and replace him.

Agree with this Taffin. The only hope we have is he sees a middle ground and signs based on being decent towards Hearts with a bit payback.

He could still  get a big move in the near future with Hearts receiving a far bigger transfer.

As others have said, pushing the boat out too far is probably going to be risky and unsettling. We are just so unlucky with the injuries to him and CP.

Had a quick look last night and Harry hasn’t played that many games as a pro either and has had a few injuries over the years also.

Italian Lambretta

Fed up hearing about Souttar if he has no intention of signing a new contract then the quicker he goes the better.

We dont want players at Heart of Midlothian who dont want to play for the club.

No longer active

So he is starting tonight v Denmark. Hope he plays well - if he does then those teams down south might be tempted to buy in the next window. So a win-win for Hearts to be fair, assuming he is off. Hope he doesn't get injured though!

Brilliant 👏🏻

Absolutely delighted for him, and unbelievably chuffed that he's having a good game.but from a selfish point of view, any success he has with Scotland reduces any chance we might have of keeping him 😕

If he goes in the summer I'd hope he pushes for a sell on clause.

Given how his career has been with injuries, he does have to take chances as they come. So realistically we need an English club desperate for a CB who can throw a couple of million at him. In our world, a few million is a good fee.

He has had a terrible time with injuries and whilst I want the best for hearts it would be hard to begrudge him a bit move.

100%. I wish he’d sign for a year and we at least get a couple of mill for him.. I think the best we can hope for now is a decent sell on

Away to Rangers for £700,000 in January apparently, speaking to a boy in the pub that has contact with Souttars mate. So bet him £20 that he won't join Rangers.

And we'd get the cash when? Or will we get it in orange washers.

See 3rd place West Brom have lost their CB Kean to an ACL injury as well as 5th place Stoke losing Harry Souttar

These clubs are playing for a £70-80m prize, Premier League. They’ve got more money to spend than the tin pot Glasgow teams who are guaranteed to try to get him on the cheap.

January sale looks more & more likely IMO there will be plenty clubs with a few quid to spend sniffing about for an in form CB at the right price.

Just needs to stay fit and we are looking at good money for him in Jan IMO and we have a perfect replacement Moore ready to step in.

I still think he'll go to the OF. Celtic were sniffing around him before we signed him. That'll hurt as Soapy feels like he's come through our youth system because of how young he was when we signed him and how badly his career had stalled at Utd. Fantastic signing and we can take a lot of credit for turning him into the player he is now.

He will go to whoever Hearts sell him to in January IMO. He’s not going to sign a pre contract somewhere, he will see the transfer fee as his repayment to the club. IMO

Souttar is going to end up the next boo-boy, since people on here are getting their knickers in a twist over something that is both unknown, and out their control.

If he goes, he goes.  He's done damn well for us, and we've been able to enjoy a quality player.  If he stays for a bit longer, his goal tonight for Scotland will have done no harm to his overall value.
