5 Celtic players in the top 10?? Anyone would think they'd had a good start to the season...

Starfelt is a particularly hilarious inclusion.

Usual pish from the media. Starfelt has had a terrible time of it since signing for Celtic. Only one mention for us at number 8, I suspect the only time the person doing the list saw Beni play was against Celtic.

WhoScored Ratings Explained

WhoScored.com Ratings are considered to be the most accurate, respected and well-known performance indicators in the world of football. Our ratings are currently used among media giants, bookmakers and football clubs.

WhoScored.com Ratings are based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game. There are over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player'’s/team’'s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game. Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.

An example: An attempted dribble (event) in the opposition’s final third (area of pitch) that is successful (outcome) will have a positive effect on a player's rating. Ratings that are flashing show that an event influencing said rating has just occurred. Green indicates an increase, while red indicates a decrease in rating.

The scoring system for the ratings is out of 10, starting from 6.0, with 10 being the highest score. The ratings are updated live every 30 seconds during the game. Our data providers Opta will update and adjust statistics where necessary 5 minutes after the final whistle. The statistics, and therefore ratings, are also subject to change at anytime after the game, due to any further corrections that need to be made to the statistics.

A green star will be awarded to the man of the match 10 minutes after full time. A few minutes after full time our data provider will undergo a review process to improve the accuracy of the statistics, which may result in some stats being corrected/updated. Ratings are also subject to an increase or decrease based on the number of goals a team has scored or conceded, and whether the team has kept a clean sheet at 90 minutes. Such boosts in rating are affected by an individual's playing position and their time on the pitch and will be calculated at full time.

https://www.whoscored.com/Explanations#:~:text=WhoScored.com%20Ratings%20are%20based,their%20influence%20within%20the%20game.

Ratings are based on a data algorithm apparently. Claim to be used by clubs. They better hope none of their users in Scotland read this list or they'll be looking for a new provider.

Leave Sky to it. We all know they barely look beyond the OF.

Beni is by some distance the player of the season - so far.

Barrie McKay has had as much impact as Jota.

Chris Cadden probably more too.

And if they had watched Hearts they would have included Woodburn even from just showing his potential.

Sums up Sky Sports in Scotland quite well.

I laughed when I read that yesterday. Cherry picking stats to suit. Celtic have made their worst league start in 23 years, yet almost half their team is included. In that case, The rest of their team must be absolutely gash.

Found it such a weird article, even stranger the ratings the company who do stats give. Just cant understand how Starfelt can be seen as done better this season than Beni.

Inclined to agree.

Quite happy for us to fly under the radar of the hysterical press and media. Let them concentrate on the bigots.

Did us no harm in 1998. It was all about 10 in-a-row, or it's prevention, and we were largely overlooked.

The OF were dropping points all over the shop and we kept tucked behind them until 6 games to go. Only the injuries to Adam and Cameron stopped us making it a three way last day decider, imo.

Starfelt has been widely ridiculed. How does he make the list?

I can understand the Japanese player being mentioned but Starfelt and Tarts and Vicars is ridiculous.

Hearts took more points off 'the others' than the Old Firm did. Failure to beat either of them in the League (2 draws and 2 defeats to Celtic, 1 draw 3 defeats to Rangers) cost us dear.

Maybe because the algorithm they're using doesn't deduct points for horrendous gaffes?

(Or maybe it can, but they've chosen not to input that data)

Who cares, the media are always gonna cream themselves over anyone that plays for them. The less attention we get the less pressure the guys play under.

So Starfelt is in it because of his hugely impressive completed passes figure. He's a centre half so most of those passes would have been 5 yard sideways passes to other defenders across the box without anyone from the other team close to him. Defenders always have good passing stats.

I particularly like his passes when theyve been kicking the ball into his own net while trying to clear it. For Starfelt to be in any list of top signings this season so far is utterly mental. Their Japanese lad has been superb but has been injured. Hibs I don’t think have anyone who should get in. Lundstrum has been decent for Rangers certainly better than any of the Celtic players bar the Japanese lad. Dundee Utd have had a couple of their signings who could well be on that list as do Motherwell. Struggling aside from that. Tbh Im surprised Griffiths isnt there based on the insanity shown for Celtic players in it

Team sitting sixth have four representatives, team lying second has one. Did Sevco not make any signings?

Lundstrum and Fashion are their two main ones i think.

So losing 5 games and winning a couple 5-0 will gain better stats than 7 single goal victories?

WheatfieldWarrior

Celtic have the biggest budget and are 6th in a 2 horse race.

Most of the Celtic guys in this list are lucky they haven't been given the boot.

Starfelt in particular is the worst Celtic player i've seen in a while.

   Some components of the algorithm seem to be missing -

Has player x helped his club win any  Champions League qualifier matches  ?

Has player x helped his club win any Europa League group matches ?

Has player x helped his club to a top 2 domestic league position ?

Maybe their algorithm includes the number of ecstatic  column inches player x has had written about him in the Daily Record though.  :whistling:

All you seem to hear (even from himself to a point) is Starfelt has been hopeless.

The little I’ve seen of him Mulgrew has been good for United - a lot of people didn’t want him hear but I thought he’d be decent. No complaints though - we had a good window.

Says it all really

I think they had the St Johnstone keeper in team of the week when we played Hibs.... Gordon and the hubz keeper had fantastic performances that week!

How does George Michael win best signing? Don't think I've even seen ant clips of him for shellick, Is he any good?

Exactly, it's meaningless. As Joe Savage said in his Q & A:

"When looking at players nowadays there’s so much info, a player could have 98% pass accuracy but does he always pass back and take the easy option or is he a player that can break the lines?"

It's great to use all the available data, but you have to marry it with a modicum of common sense! Which WhoScored.com have obviously failed  to do with Starfelt.

Maybe they should stick to telling us Who Scored and leave it at that.

Just reminds me of the classic Ebbe Skovdhal quote about stats!

Though very happy we are flying under the radar again when it comes to these things.
