I think you’re right that it was as much a case of doubling down on a ridiculous and unrealistic sense of self belief (and inability to admit failure) as anything else. Agreed, another is The Smartest Guys in the Room, the Enron documentary based on the book of the same name (also brilliant). Ironically, the Theranos and Enron scandals have very much in common (albeit on totally different monetary scales). Throw in the Texas abortion ruling, mass shootings and wars backed by God. Afghans should count themselves lucky, they missed the planes to the US.
