Leukaemia (ALL)

Never Let Them Forget

My 2 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with ALL leukaemia and it’s totally heartbreaking, do anybody unfortunately have any experience with it?

We are currently in Queen Elizabeth in Glasgow and I must say I can’t thank them enough for all the effort the nurses/doctors/surgeons/charities all go to.

This is by no means a sympathy post but I would just like to understand folks experiences and journeys that might help us in the future.

Sorry to hear that. A good friend's daughter was diagnosed with the same about the same age and is now a happy healthy 10 year old kid doing well at primary school. They had very tough times so there's no point in sugarcoating it but the whole family, and most importantly the wee one, came through it.

Thanks for the response.

That’s great to hear about the outcome and we do understand that tough times are ahead but stories like that give a big boost for our self’s.

We have the most stubborn wee girl (nightmare at dinner time though) that won’t give in to anything and I know that she will come through this. She’s getting a present for every time she’s being brave but she’s not daft so she says she’s brave for getting out of bed 😂

All the very best mate. It won't make much of a difference but I'll be rooting for you all.

My Grandson was diagnosed with Leukaemia 4 years ago, its beyond Scary , he was in the sick kids in Edinburgh, Then to the hospital your daughters in,  Ward 2 I think, he got a bone marrow transplant, so far he is clear.  The thing i would say to bear in mind is Medicine has come a very long way in the last few years, that hospital and its doctors are very good at treating this illness.  My thoughts are with you

Sorry to hear this but I echo what others have said that these type of diseases can have a good prognosis now due to the meds and skills of the medical teams . The NHS can be incredible . Is there an online support group you can join for this specific leukimmia ?  ? All the best anyway .

What a horrible thing to read. I've no experience with leukemia but we've been going through a pretty big issue with our youngest since he was born 19 months ago and he's probably going to be fixed for good in a couple of weeks time. I'll be posting on here when he's through it because the stuff the NHS can do and do is nothing short of mind-blowing.

If nothing else, I'm pretty sure your wee girl is going to be getting the very best of treatment from people that really know what they're doing. The NHS might be a shit show but those at the forefront are amazing at what they do.

Oh no sorry to hear that hopefully your wee man gets sorted but what the last week has learned me kids are so resilient and take everything in there stride.

Honestly I will be forever grateful for the GP/Nurses/Doctors for the treatment we have received it’s nothing short of remarkable. The support we are getting from the hospital and charities is also remarkable from Gifts/apartment/meals/fuel it has made a massive difference as we can just focus on our wee lass ❤️

That’s great to hear, as a family we are being positive during these times and hearing other stories like yourself is a nice wee boost 👍🏼

When we heard the dreaded words from the doctor my world fell apart but when we got transferred to QEUH and speaking to the specialists/Professor changed our outlook. Your correct the medicine and treatment has came along way and hopefully in the future that continues so we get rid off that horrible disease.
