Chocolate Bars

Recommended Posts

The 54321 chocolate bar/biscuit was mentioned in the Scottish Clubs in Europe thread and got me thinking of other confectionery that has been discontinued. 1989 in this case.

The one I miss most from childhood/younger days were these bad boys which disappeared in 1992, apparently.

I've been in mourning since they changed the Milky Way to the abomination that it is now.

No photo description available.

I'm going back to when I was a laddie living in Muirhouse 1975. There was a papershop opposite the Spar in the shopping centre but can't recall the name.

The original Milky Way recipe was used in the Flyte bar. Sadly this was discontinued some years ago.

Star Bar

Yes...you can still get these and they're delicious.....but they're not the same. They were much harder and chewier back in the 80s.

Absolutely, it was my favourite when I was young but what is now called a star bar is the old Peanut Boost....the old star bar was more like a peanut Lion bar

Also does anyone else remember these beautys?

Loved the pyramint, dark chocolate with the sweet minty fondant 😋

And the Bitz were a mix weren't they? With wee bits in it

Bitz was essentially just Matchmakers in slab form instead of wee sticks.

Spira were great.

I remember they were a test of endurance. Very chewy but lovely.

I didn't realise the Fuse bar was discontinued until tonight.

Five years ago, apparently.

Great call.

The Nutty Bar was magic.

Probably be an outcry if it were launched now for being a tooth destroying health hazard.

Such is the modern world.

Star Bar fan here. Not sure about any difference though, probably because they don't last long enough to notice 😁

Texans were always my favourite though.

Yes…..yes….yes….. I was just about to post a picture of this…….I used to put this in the freezer first before I snapped it and ate it (the reason defeats me) but I loved it………I’m sure the advert (a cartoon) mentioned “Texan, the big one” lol

I remember the ad with the Texan granted a last wish by the Messican firing squad whole all feel asleep as he took so long to eat it. No racial stereotyping at all, there!

Салатные палочки

I remember a bar back in the early 90s. The individual pieces looked like a mountain. It had milk chocolate with white chocolate at the top of each piece (to look like snow) and a praline centre. I don't know if they were on sale for long but they were dynamite.

Mars Midnight with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. Was beautiful.

Mars would occasionally release batches of 'Dark & Light' for limited periods but can't recall the last time I saw them.

Mint Wispa was superb and should definitely make a return.

MB bars.

Always seemed strange to me as they were sold unwrapped. Couldn't possibly happen today and amazed it happened back then.

Always seemed a bit home made and imperfect.

Some shops still sell them. Usually wee newsagents. Don't know if they still taste the same though.

Some sweets were just made for Celtic fans weren't they...I do remember buying and enjoying these back in the day. My favourite however was the much-missed Texan bar - got your money's worth there and that mattered at the time. Also remember Munchies were extremely expensive but a real treat.

Another one I remember buying was confectionary cigarettes and cigarillos. Unbelievable that these got made. Couldn't find the actual UK ones as a pic but the Aussie ones were even called Fags!

I was addicted to Maverick bars for a while, probably the best result for my waistline that they were discontinued, but I was in mourning for a while when they were
