I know it's emotive but Fernandez can't complain about the medical time-out.

Raducanu was winning this, irrespective imo.

She didn't really have a choice but to take the time out I don't think.

I sympathise with Fernandez but she'll need to control her emotions better than that if she wants to win finals...she totally let it get the better of her. Shame as she was critical to that being such a great game of tennis.

I was encouraged by my compulsive gambler mate to “ put my money where my mouth is “ !  I texted him just now saying “ oh well no wonder I never gamble , its a losers game. “

his reply ; “ only if you back losers “ 😎

Not that I’m a conspiracy theorist but that injury came at a handy moment !!!! I, 2,3 …….  💣

It is quite a good tactic to scrape your knee along the ground and bleed at the perfect moment.

Brilliant game of tennis. Never been a fan of womens tennis but that was every bit as good as any mens match I've watched in a few years. Both players were brilliant

Aye but a safer cheatin' tactic than trying to twist your ankle and ending up breaking it I guess! I suspect she had a wee knife hidden in her tennis knickers... :th_Jttesur:

Oh ffs just give her the trophy she’s earned it ! It’s getting anti climatic now

They both talk very well - but some of these questions should be asked by the media after the prize-giving...

I think they both did very well considering they'll have never done anything like this before.

Handing over a cheque is a bit tacky... Do they do that at all the tournaments? I've never really noticed it before

Yes 👍

If they do I've never noticed it either. I doubt it, it feels very American, any excuse to shoehorn some reference to an asset management company 😂

Edit: just saw James' post above, I take it back, sorry America.

jack D and coke

I don’t watch much women’s sport never mind tennis but that was really cracking stuff.
Radacanu might dominate if she can stay fit and healthy.
What a brilliant win for her.

To be fair she’s really Canadian.

Moot point. She was born in Canada as her parents were working there. Her mum is Chinese and her dad is Romanian. She's live here since she was 2 years old.

Billie Jean channeling the Elton John look yet again

TBF I saw her on the One Show the other night (wife likes it) and she'd clearly gone and researched who the hosts were (Ronan Keating and Zoe Ball) - never seen a US guest do that before...Usually they clearly have no idea who they are talking to on UK TV

Malinga the Swinga

Great win for Radacanu. No more qualifiers for her and ranking will be unreal.

She seems pretty level headed and has Murray and Henman to call on for support.

Think Sports personality of the year is done and dusted.

Always likes Billie Jean a real pioneer for women’s tennis as noted earlier at the event as she set up the “ Virginia Slims “ women’s tour in the early 70s

Correct, her influence in tennis goes way beyond her on court success. Like Jackie Stewart in formula 1 she was a superb competitor but gave so much more than just their ability.
