AlimOzturk Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Djokovic clearly not fully fit or fully prepared for this but still there giving it his all.

Draper's not playing badly but, now that he's given up his break to get back on serve in the 3rd, I can't see him going on to win. Norrie deserves his win. Draper just not at the races. Being honest, neither will be troubling winners of a grand slam.

Sooperstar Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 The Murrays papped out. Big Centre Court farewell now under way.
Sooperstar Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Nice touch from Novak hanging around to pay his respects.

rudi must stay Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Tennis will miss Andy Murray. He worked his socks off to achieve his dreams all the best to him and his wife
Taffin Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Andy Murray is absolute icon. Deserved every second of that send off. It's sad to think it's all over, he's given us so many magic moments.
Dusk_Till_Dawn Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 He’s had an amazing career and it’s sad that it’s over but he isn’t half dragging this out. He’s been broken for years and he can barely win a match. It’s only a difficult decision because he’s refused to see what’s staring him in the face
whodanny Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 I slightly know Judy and her family. Really nice folk. Her Mum and Dad were really sweet and kind people. They adored their Grandsons, were so proud of Andy and Jamie. The guy is a legend, and Jamie is a brilliant sportsman. We should be proud of top class Scottish sports stars like they are. I'm proud of Andy. Hibby or not. Well done lad.

Boulter in particular expected to do a lot better and had blown it.

Sooperstar Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Alcaraz has overcome a scare from Tiafoe and is now 1 game away from victory, 5-1 up in the decider.
Sooperstar Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Useless Emma a double break up and serving for the 1st set against the number 9 seed.
Victorian Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Raducanu's level right now is top 10 class. It's only Swiatek, Gauff, Rybakina or Jabeuer who would beat her, albeit probably with a bit to spare.
neilnunb Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Well done Emma. Played calmly when Sakkari threatened too. The momentum building nicely.
Victorian Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 That's two top players beaten in straight sets for the loss of 8 games. I think 7 breaks of serve up and unbroken.

Her guts to go for winners when facing break points was amazing. Playing so freely it feels like we only got a glimpse of her true potential before injury.

A 2nd US Open would be some story.
JudyJudyJudy Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 She might have a shot at Wimbledon this year if she manages to avoid really good players on grass like Rybankina or Jabeur. If she does she might progress but sorry to be a debbie downer i still dont see anything significantly special about her game on grass. Whos she playing next ?

Outside Swiatek the field is open for anyone who can hit form at the right time. She plays Sun of Australia (I think) Personally hoping for Ons to win it.

Id rather see really fine players with various and varied shots to win the title though. Rybankina is superb and i have a soft spot for Jabeur as she is a throwback to the all court type of player from an earlier time and doesnt just rely on power . ( She hasnt much anyway) I would like her to win too. She might be like Novotna who should have won a few times but lost and then eventually won. My god rest her soul too. Lovely person. I'd like to see Ons win it too, but she's not been in the best of form this year. As often seems to be the case, the women's tournament will probably be wide open for surprise semi-finalists/finalists/winner

I P Knightley Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Absolutely pishing it down here. Has been since Friday morning. Golf course closed due to flooding; not much chance of an afternoon full of tennis. I have to say, I'm not much impressed with Keith Starmer's premiership so far.

AWM Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 (edited) Raducanu has pulled out the mixed doubles with a stiffness in her wrist. Edited July 6, 2024 by AWM
neilnunb Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 This was clearly planned as when she was quizzed on court about the doubles last night she was slightly taken aback.

She’s quite fragile physically it seems. Andy can pair up with a contemporary of his , billie Jean king or the like lol.
Rudi Skacel Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Thats a shame. However she isnt the first player to sacrifice doubles for singles, she wont be the last. Shame for Andy but its understandable.
neilnunb Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Murray had his farewell. Do you really think he'd want to go through all that again? Any subsequent cheerio would have been a complete letdown and a distraction. Raducanu has had 3 (?) operations on her wrist so they'll also want to be careful with that. She is back enjoying her tennis, looking happy and getting fitter. Isn't that the most important thing? A bit weird for grown men to constantly want to run her down given she achieved something that no other British female had done for over 40 years.
