Francis Albert Posted June 9, 2021 Share Posted June 9, 2021 The NHS intends to share "personally identifiable" data about the medical records held by your GP with other healthcare professionals for the purposes of your individual care (fair enough) but also "to support health and care planning and research, including by commercial organisations (as far as I see in the UK and elsewhere). If you don't want this to happen you have to opt out by the end of this month. You can opt out later but your existing records will not then be covered by the opt out. I feel a bit uncomfortable about this. It is not clear why the data needs to be personally identifiable and its extension to commercial organisations could include a huge range of businesses. Conservative government came to power explaining how they would resolve the issues left over by Labour and the global economy crash. We have had a over a decade of increased UK debt, austerity which was widely panned as non effective and delayed recovery, various bit of public owned entities privatised like the 80s (Royal Mail) and the NHS battered from pillar to post. On the plus side - many of the English have been conditioned to blame foreigners for it all. Having Conservative views on life/the economy isn't a bad thing but the people who operate the party/country are thanks to greed/incompetence/corruption. Rant over - thanks Tories for continually ****ing over public services and the people of the UK. I get the anti-Tory rants but it was more the Big Brotherish aspect that concerned me. And I can see that the data could be a gold mine for Big Pharma marketing and product development. I'm on a scheme called mydiabetesmyway which is run by NHS Scotland and your personal site contains all your lab results, clinic test results, medication, doses etc etc etc, you can even add your own home test results, if you so wish. I got the results of a blood test, just Monday past, I knew the results before the doctor phoned me to tell me them, I accessed them online via my site. I think it's a great thing as it's handing back some level of control of your condition to yourself, as your site shows you where you should be and where your levels actually are and not just glucose levels but various different components of your blood, and if something is too high it gives you advice on how to get things back in range again.
