Best own goal.

What is the best own goal you've seen scored for us?

Mines was in a derby that didn't mean anything.

It was Gordon Rae in a sunday testimonial or that game for Tom Hart.

I was right behind the goal when alex McDonald put a ball back into the box and Rae scored with a brilliant header.

My first derby.

East of Scotland Shield, semi final, 27 Oct. 1981. Hibs 1 Hearts 2.

Fort Vallance

A bit off topic but remember Gary Mackay scoring at both ends against Hibs. The significance was that the og made him Hibs joint top goalscorer at that point.

One of my old mates went to school with Conrad Balatoni and was playing football with his school team said he scored a 25yard own goal played the ball back to the keeper hit the bar and went in :jj_facepalm:

Didn't realise it was as early as 81.   I saw him at a school football tournament a few weeks after and thought I was older than I thought.

He stayed in Bonnyrigg and came to present awards at that tournament.

He had a picture taken with a lot of us which was in the pink.

I scored an og in the "house" football competition in 1st year. Header straight from a corner. Terrible feeling. Must be awful to do it in a competitive match, for real, in front of a crowded stadium.

Just googled it. Came up straight away "Willie Donachie og".

It was v. Wales and at Hampden. 1978. Nice finish.

Can't post a link I'm afraid.

Our record against them at Tynecastle must have been horrendous between 1963 and 1983

I only remember it from the Premier era on and wasn't at any, thankfully.

Other than a shield game and the Tom Hart thing, the 3-2 was my first.

Good timing. 🤗

I always remember 1 that Roddy Macdonald scored in the mid to late 80s. He went to pass back from around the halfway line, caught henry off guard and lobbed him.

I’ll put some spin on it , only seen us lose 3 games to them from my first one in 73/74 to 83/84 😀

mind you I didn’t see any other wins either 😡

2 goals during that run I remember vividly , Bobby Prentice scoring in the last game before segregation at their place and a Ralph Callaghan goal for them at the Gorgie rd end again pre-segregation .
Both games had , how can I put it , disagreements between the supporters on the terracing 😂

Much obliged.

I had the privilege of witnessing that one live, then went home to my English flatmate, who was a Man City fan. Complicated. Not sure who had bragging rights.

On the way out of Hampden someone shouted 'bring on Iran'. Little did he know.

I remember we had a poor Home Internationals in 1978.

Alarm bells maybe should have rang, even just a wee bit, but they didn't.

I was only 10 that summer so that's my excuse for falling for Ally's hype. I had no idea at the time he was an ex Hibs player. At least I know now where the fantasy and delusion came from.

God bless him, though. It was a fantastic ride up to about the 30th minute v. Peru.

That would be the first of Callachan's successive derby goals in 1979. The second was 4½ years later.

Tried a few times to find his Hearts derby goal in 1975 but only Stanton's late, late equaliser is available.

Late late is being generous , I left the ground and went straight to school 😉

I seem to recall Roddy MacDonald scoring an own goal with a header from near the centre circle in the mid 80’s. I think we were playing Celtic that day.

That Bobby Prentice goal got me a doing from 5 Hibs supporters.

My dad was a security guard at Bruce(Parsons) Peebles at the time. We lived in Ferry Road Drive, and I would get him a Pink from Colin Barr's shop(he was a big Hibby) and take it to my dad. I was walking past the old St David's school singing we've got Bobby, Bobby Prentice on the wing a wee bit to loudly and five Hibs supporters came round the corner. Clocked me heard my singing and in true Hibby fashion ask, what team do you support?

I thought the Maroon and White scarf was a giveaway. Me being the cheeky git, replied Hearts, who do you support?( their own Green and White scarves the give away). It all kicked off. I got a good couple of punches and kicks in, but came off second best. Burst lip and bruise on the cheek.

Dad went apeshit when he saw me

and said no more going to games on my own. I was 13 and a half at the time. There was no way I was not going to the games, and my dad knew it.

The best own goal I've seen by a Hearts player was Malcolm Robertson's screamer into his own net in the last game of the season against Motherwell in 1976-77. My memory may be blurred, but my recollection is that he went in for a 50/50 challenge for the ball, got there first, hit the ball perfectly and it went exactly in the direction he was facing (his own goal) with no deflection and low into the net. He was well outside the box. The great thing about it was that it didn't matter; we were already relegated and we won the match 3-2
