Everyone involved with Hearts and Hibs knew beforehand that it was the biggest game in the history of both clubs. It’s as simple as that. The desperation to downplay the 2012 final is understandable given the absolute hounding Hibs took, and it’s obviously fertile territory for someone like Smith who buys into and adds to the myths their support constantly creates as a comfort blanket.
