Down in Blackpool on holiday and came into Blackpool's supporters Club the Armfield club and speaking to the supporters of the club about the man.

Still fondly remembered in these parts. Could be a messy weekend if we got an away friendly against them.

Cannot upload a pic of his shirt for some reason.

Worked down in Lytham for a couple of days a week for a couple of years so worked with Blackpool fans and went to as many midweek matches in the their championship promotion and Premiership seasons as I could. Bit of a soft spot for them due to that.

Blackpool.

The resort of choice for folk who buy their dinner from Greggs and their weekly messages at Morrisons.

Are Morrisons so bad? Or Greggs for that matter. Blackpool is not to my taste but I am not a fan of Las Vegas either ... with which it shares some qualities.

I’ve had a few tonight but struggling to understand that one.  I’d have thought the comparison would be more with Aldi or Lidl but maybe I’m missing something or just pished.

Edit : who the **** buys their dinner at Greggs anyway?  It’s closed by then!

Well said. Some really snobby opinions voiced on this thread which was about Gnandulliet not Blackpool as a holiday destination, Morrisons or Griegs. And if you haven't been or tried , then don't knock it. And for the record,  Morrisons have an amazing salad lunch counter and the best fresh fish stall of all the supermarkets and Griegs do a great range of sandwiches- Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls 😋

I've spent months in Vegas and a few weekends in Blackpool, including a memorable afternoon standing on tables singing hearts songs in the bierkeller. I can confirm, they have very little on common.

If you don't like Blackpool, Greggs or Morrisons then don't go - there are other choices - I don't see a need to look down your nose at those who do like such things.

Although some are not yet convinced, I’ve seen enough of him to know why he was liked at blackpool

You know when pundits insightfully say, “you need a guy who’ll get you a goal” ? He is that guy. The type who may not be the top scorer but the goals he scores are important ones. Something different to unlock the door in a tight game against a tough defensive unit.

I back him to get to 10 to 15 goals next season. So if boycie could get to that dream number of 20 and others GMS, Walker, Gino, Mceneff, Naismith, Haring  etc could all chip in with 4 or 5 each, we could be in a really seriously good position depending on who we can get to marshal things alongside Haring and Souttar... Keep the door shut at the back and we could be a potential cat among pigeons next season.

I stay in Blackpool over a Friday and Saturday for the Grand National weekend. Wouldn't be my choice of holiday venue but I can understand why people go there. Certainly plenty pubs with inexpensive drinks.

It's a bit run down like many traditional English holiday towns are now. What could have been when they didn't get the planning approval to major investment of casinos and entertainment venues to turn it into a mini Atlantic City, a few years ago.

Go to Blackpool with the right mindset, i.e. not expecting much, and you'll have a great weekend. Plenty of pubs and clubs, cheap booze and accommodation and you're probably guaranteed your hole.

Had some great and mental weekends there over the years.

Anyway, back to the football. I reckon he'll come good for us. Last season was a strange one all round. He showed enough to suggest that with proper service he'll be dangerous. Him and Boyce could be a successful partnership given the chance to get used to each other.

I sometimes get lunch from Greggs but very rarely shop at Morrisons (a sister in law used to work for them though)

I love old traditional seaside towns. Many have suffered due to foreign holidays being cheap and so many airports.

I read that Blackpool had more rooms to rent that the whole of Portugal. It must be doing something right to still draw so many folk.

My mother still enjoys going to Blackpool for a few days. Stays at a hotel at the sea front, takes in some shows and a trip on the trams. Simple easy things.

I take my kids down every couple of years for the lights and they love it. A beach (weather permitting) to walk along, the tower, fairground rides etc lots for them to do.

Me? I like visiting the RNLI station and the comedy carpet.

Each to their own - Blackpool has a lot of poverty and it can be seen as soon as you get a street or two away from the touristy stuff.

As for the football team - loved watching them in the premier, they were a joy to watch. The family that owned them for years bled the club dry and it is good to see them slowly building the club back up again.

Tell you what, you've never lived if you havny dunked a Greggs ham and cheese baguette into a cardboard cup of superheated heinz tomato soup. Try it. You know you want to.

Im not a fan of tomato soup either.

Would it work just the same if I made a ham and cheese piece myself and dunked it in some Muligatawney, Lentil or Scotch Broth?

I used to love Blackpool.

My mid-life crisis didn't involve motorbikes or sporty cars.  It involved taking my young daughter to the Pleasure Beach every other weekend, running between the roller coasters and getting as many rides in as we could.

Know the feeling. Blackpool can be different things to different people. If your thing is going out of an evening getting plastered and behaving disgracefully, then I would imagine that you will find plenty others to keep you company, but if your thing is keeping children entertained during the daytime when the nobs are lying low and nursing their hangovers then you can have a great time. I've experienced much worse behaviour around Tynecastle on a matchday than I ever saw during daytime hours in Blackpool. When my children were young I spend some very happy holidays there and they enjoyed it much better than the flights to the sun.

Wow.

I wish I could have even a small dose of your optimism.

So you think we have a 20 goal striker and a 10-15 goal striker in the Premier League? Plus 6 4+ goal midfielders.

Maybe it's not a dose of optimism you've had right enough.

Is morrisons for scaffs?? Last time I was in one, years ago, it had all kinds of amazing fruit and veg - freshness maintained through a steamer unit.  I'm a bit shocked now.  Thought morrisons was on the up.

Love these threads btw!

I like Blackpool, it’s fun. I also like the cakes out of Greggs, the pastries aren’t great though, not overly keen on Morrison’s.

Gnando will do fine for us. If we get the right balls in to him, he’ll do better than fine.

So , in summary: Gnando isn’t a 20 goal a season because he doesn’t like steak bakes, Morrisons isn’t a shop where you go for messages it’s really a barometer for your social status, Blackpool is alright when it’s not a shite hole, Skegness!? 😱 WTAF! (Oops you now know I don’t shop in Morrisons). Oh Kickback, never change. 😄

PS: when will the talk of football break out😂😂

Superficially not but look a bit more carefully they have a lot in common. Beneath its fake superficial glitz Vegas is a modern day Blackpool. In fact Blackpool is at least more honestly tacky. IMO of course, maybe clouded by the fact that on my last visit to Vegas  I shared a hotel on the Strip with the North American Celtic Supporters Club holding their annual convention. If you want to insult Blackpool you could say they brought a taste of Blackpool to Vegas but they certainly looked at home there.

The thread reminds me of the days when before the Terrace and Shed were split and discussion could move seamlessly between football and almost anything else.

But to bring the two together, when I used to have an ST at the Emirates, rushing to a game after work, I often picked up a bite to eat on the way at Greggs, the last takeaway before you turned off Holloway Road for the ground. The food was  a vast improvement on what was served at the stadium, or indeed is served from the concourses at Tynie.  A Greggs concession would do well at many football grounds. Is there one anywhere - I guess St James Park is the likeliest venue.
