The government especially a Labour government does not control the narrative. Historically the written press and now TV and social media are the opinion formers. Most people believe state ownership is bad and don't mind the corruption and theft of national assets by private individuals and companies believing that to be a minor and unfortunate consequence resulting from the necessary privatisation and reduction in control. They believe this because it is drummed into them regularly in the media. They can't quite convince the public that the NHS should be privatised and that is the next challenge for the plutocrats.

Most of private industry in this country nowadays is just an increasingly elaborate mechanism to siphon off money from the state. They keep taking money out and put nothing back in and so the system is broken. More of the same won't fix it. Somebody once said that the workers need to take control of the means of production, it's almost as if they could see this day coming. The public wont vote for anything unless the BBC/Daily Mail/social media tells them too. Voting for Labour is voting for more of the same, what's the point? Starmer at best is just another John Major. Boris is just a blonde Gordon Brown with a personal life. It shouldn't be difficult to find something better but it is proving to be impossible. The public will vote for anybody they see as being honest and vaguely competent - unless of course the media tells them not to.

Ok. I will raise you this.

The major glaring problem with evidence pointing to Tories lies ect is that while this should destroy the government but it wont. It wont because for the entirety  of this pandemic the Labour party sat on the fence and ALLOWED the public to believe that nobody else could have done better.

Boris and co are getting away with what they want because the Labour leader and Boris are from the same cut of cloth. Labour have a red tory in charge.

I totally agree but this might get so bad for the Tories that Starmer might hold on to the leadership as his ratings will go up. He might even win the next election because of it. The only real opposition to the Tories comes from the Tories themselves though so the more likely scenario imo is Johnson emptied soon and replaced with somebody not closely linked or adversely affected by the Covid response i.e Hunt or Sunak. Business as usual and a safe pair of hands in control.

What is the point in Westminster then? What's the point in debate.

If this was said in another country we would laugh at it and say how backwards that country is..

They replaced the term and meaning  of freedom with another term and meaning.. They call it  Democracy .

Its a bit of a joke  doon Westminster. The cradled of UK ,(ahem) democracy.

"Democracy"

You have a choice, we are your voice
Red, blue or yellow.
We will ridicule the green
Another five lane motorway
(You'll never even get a referendum anyway)
Funny handshakes, insider dealings
Et in Arcadia, Arcadia ego
Backhanders and salamanders
A powerhouse that is morally Mechula

I'm sorry democracy is changing

I'm not a slogan or a badge
Or a cross in the ballot box
Neither values or objectives
You do not represent my deepest thoughts and wishes
Education in obsolete skills
Stereotyping and media projection
Industrial psychologists
Plan a campaign that is financed by big business

I'm sorry democracy is changing

You have a choice, we are your voice
Red, blue or yellow.
We will ridicule the green
Another five lane motorway
(You'll never even get a referendum anyway)

Farmers are on a steep learning curve previously inhabited by fisherman, the DUP, Johnson's former employers, along with his ex-wives and mistresses, where the penny drops that good old Bojo's promises are worthless.

Even those eagerly awaited Brexit unicorns are going to be imported tariff free from Australia.

:sob:

If you're talking beef, then forget it. Australia's got sod all 'spare' beef to export to the UK. As a result of swine flu, China is guzzling up all of the world's 'spare' beef protein.

But the essence of this remains the same: never get between a Brit farmer and a subsidy. They're the biggest socialists in the UK, except that they all vote Tory.

I agree with what Stefanovic is highlighting is a catalog of lies. My question is two fold. Why are people blind to the continual lies from politicians, why aren’t these lies front and centre of media scrutiny not to mention parliamentary scrutiny?

Because it’s became tribal. Football rivalry almost. They can’t bare the alternative. I brought up this with a mate last night and all he did was try deflect onto to the snp

Wasn’t interested in what Cummings said.

Just this morning there was another lie exposed on the Andrew Marr program.
To me the people who allow these lies to go unchecked, unpunished are blind. There is an advert on TV about people be nose blind to dog smells. In my opinion instead of

spraying some smelly stuff over the furnishings to suppress the smells just get rid of the problem, the dog, the lying clown who is contaminating our country.

Zero sympathy for the DUP, they had a once in a lifetime electoral result giving them unprecedented power at Westminster. They rejected Theresa May's deal because it wasn't a 'pure' enough Brexit, thinking they could somehow achieve zero border checks but still have a complete break with the EU.

The revelation that Johnson is a liar is hardly news to anyone that's been paying attention.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

People are thick, bud. This will not end good for the people who live on these islands. Except a few.

I don’t think it’s the media who are ignoring the corruption and lies coming out of Westminster. It’s the British electorate.

It seems that no matter what comes to light about dodgy dealings and cronies being awarded contracts, without due process, the British public, particularly in England, are happy to go along with it and strengthen the grip of those abusing their positions within the government.

They just don’t care.

Good point. What is the reason ? Well first of all there is no effective competent opposition that could be trusted by the masses to run the country and secondly, folk will always turn a blind eye to the odd lie and dodgy deal if the big stuff in the country is being run as they want it to be run. Start to really mess up on the big tickets like jobs the economy and immigration and it’s a different ball game. They messed up health (Covid) in my opinion but they’ve been saved too many awkward questions by the outstanding vaccination programme.

All these supposed financial experts (like Bank of England)who are forecasting good  UK  economic growth really need to start reading jkb and  our resident anti government "experts" posts before making such wild positive projections .

The OECD are credible. And they’re saying today, “The United Kingdom could suffer the biggest reduction amongst G7 countries (a decline of 0.5 percentage point per annum), in part reflecting the additional adverse supply-side effects from 2021 following Brexit."

Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving.
