That 1996 final was truly awful

Too much hype and some of that was around the Liverpool suits

😄

I'd forgotten about "the suit".

Not wrong about the game. I genuinely did drop off.

I used to enjoy the BBC coverage in the build up to the game, starting at what seemed like 10am. Film of the team buses arriving at Wembley and god knows what else to fill all that time.

It's definitely not been the same since they put the match on during a league weekend and shoved it to the early evening as a sideshow to the main event. I can't get excited about it but I'm sure one of the teams will win, so well done to them.

Agree. It has lost that intangible appeal from the days when it was seen as a blue riband event. Nowhere near the sense of occasion and as you say the pre-match build up  really wheted the appetite .One downside was for a period of time it was blacked out in Scotland resulting in a mini convoy of cars and busses to the borders where regional coverage was available in bars and clubs. Overkill and a sign of the times has diminished and devalued what used to be a prestige event probably best illustrated by Manchester United opting out of the tournament a couple of decades ago.

Pretty sad the demise of the competition, genuinely no club above League 2 give a rats ass about it, simply treated as a welcome distraction when clubs get to QF's.

All because of money.

This is something I just can't get my head round. OK to a certain extent clubs challenging for the title or European trophies but for clubs like Newcastle, Villa etc to play virtually a reserve team in the only competition they could realistically win just baffles me

That actually might sway a few to want Chelsea to win

No surely not?

Surely any right-minded Hearts supporter will be wanting the team playing in maroon to win?

I don't really care who wins, on an average day.

But Brendan Rodgers still annoys me, so I hope Chelsea win.

Never seen a man clap his hands the way he does. He does it like a wee girl.

Only realised it was on today about half an hour ago. How times change. Anyway on now and looking forward to the pre-match "banter" being over soon.

National anthem - not many players singing it

Would you sing a foreign countries anthem?

Leicester have been in 4 previous finals and lost them all. In each of them, they wore blue and white in various combinations. Will a switch to maroon and white be a lucky omen for them ?

Yes, if knew it and as a mark of respect. Brendan Rogers didn't bother.

Something I am not unfamiliar with.I would certainly be happy to sing the best national anthem in the world. La Marseillaise. If was playing or managing abroad I'd give it a go at A prestigious national final. Anyway on with the football.

Na I could never bring myself to sing a non Scottish National Anthem. Imagine being on the pitch and having to sing God Save the Queen , Jerusalem or whatever the English one is.

As a young Middlesbrough fan I always dreamt of one day seeing us in an FA Cup Final, never thinking we would ever get there.  I used to marvel at the marching band, and the singing of Abide With Me and the National Anthem used to being a rear to my eye.

By the time we finally got there in 1997 the band had disgracefully already been replaced by random singers.  I had to sing with bloody Cliff Richard 😡

Aye - not quite the same now. Why they have to have opera singers at the cup finals I don't know.

Just as bad as having Amy MacDonald at Hampden - Ca Moan Scotland

The English one is currently the same as Scotland's. Like it or not.

Just reminded me of Ted Lowe the snooker commentator

Lowe uttered the occasional on-air gaffe, one of his most famous quotes being, "and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green."

Great to hear and see a crowd again. But surprised at the lack of social distancing in a ground that would have permitted much more.

Crowds make the game.  The Scottish Gov (and SFA) are poor at heir job.

Jerusalem is like the Marseillaise a great song unlike GSTQ dirge and the FOS ditty. I suppose we should talk about the football. It hasn't been inspiring so far.

To be honest, if I was a good enough player to appear in a national final I would make the effort to learn the anthem and sing it with gusto.  Anything else is disrespectful to the country and the fans, in my opinion.

Na mate , that sounds nice on paper doesnt work on the field , no way it would. Be respectful , dont slag it but **** singing it.

Na the British one is one thing , English and Scottish are different. Pretty sure they didn’t play the British one before any game Iv been involved in.

🤣 Aye , but Vardy with a great shot and the defending was brilliant because “he took a gamble and it hit him” I don’t usually see the appeal but thought it might be a bit better than it has been so far.

I do agree about Jerusalem its impressive when sung by thousands but its still not something Id sing personally no matter if I was captaining a Cup Finalist down there.

Not much has happened in the first 35 minutes but the noise from the fans makes it seem it's been exciting !
