Why did we not reach the standard we did against Celtic and Hibs most weeks. Could it be our coaching staff are really not very good, an opinion held by most.

Most players raise their game for a higher standard of opposition and magnitude of match.

Combine that with no atmosphere and no crowds across the whole season. Players react differently, some thrive some don’t.

I have no idea who will be signed or not, but Hearts do look at players by fielding trialists in bounce games, as they have done this week.

Did we have another bounce game today (as I think you suggested in a post at the start of the week)?

Comparing apples and oranges, no way to tell fir sure.

We won the championship by a distance, first time.

Folk can make their own minds up about how shite a team can be that does that.

In the cups we had 2 good performances and one  1 God awful performance.

Again, folk can take from that what they want.

It does look like that. It will be interesting to see whether in the challenge cup Chris plays for Arbroath or captains our youngsters for “Hearts B”, a role he seemed to fill in pre-season. I think both are possible under challenge cup rules.

Cammy McPherson looks a good young player at st mirren. Not sure of his contract

situation though.

Would be great if some of our youth players could make the grade.

If he has no future, why are we punting him out on loan? Just pay up his contract and let him find a club elsewhere.

We seem to do this a lot with youngsters when it's clear they have no chance of regular first team football.

A few updates with the young boys going out on loan. Still look very weak in centre midfield, I'm hoping Haring can recover his form - he always looked better against the better sides - think his role becomes a bit redundant against poorer sides.

Smith/Kingsley are also covering at CB but we look very thin at CB.

Goalkeepers
- Craig Gordon - 2022
- Ross Stewart - 2023

Right Backs
- Michael Smith - 2022
- Jamie Brandon - 2022
- Cammy Logan - 2023

Centre Backs
- John Souttar- 2022
- Craig Halkett - 2022
- Mihai Popescu - 2022

Left Backs
- Stephen Kingsley - 2022
- Alex Cochrane - 2022 (Loan)

Centre Midfielders
- Peter Haring - 2022
- Aaron McEneff - 2023
- Jamie Walker - 2022
- Andy Halliday- 2022
- Loic Damour - 2023
- Connor Smith - 2022

Wide Midfielders
- Gary Mackay-Steven - 2023
- Josh Ginnelly - 2023
- Jordan Roberts - 2022

Forwards
- Liam Boyce - 2023
- Armand Gnanduillet - 2022
- Euan Henderson - 2022

On Loan
- Harry Stone - Partick Thistle (Season)
- Scott McGill - Airdrie (January)
- Chris Hamilton - Arbroath (January)

Brandon is a long term injury and I see you obviously don't rate Finlay Pollock at all. I would take issue with your judgement on that

Has he grown any?

Wiki has him at a smidge over 6 feet.

I didn't hold out much hope for him when he broke through a few years back being touted as a future centre back despite being the same size as my 8 year old laddie

Minded me of giving Jordan McGhee senior game time at about 16 years old and about 7st soaking wet.

I know youth fitba shouldn't be just about "big strong laddies" but who the **** chooses positions for these boys?

Financial mathematics

In other words we are getting some of his wages paid by another club which is cheaper than paying up a contract with the added bonus of being the club anyone else would need to pay a fee to if somehow he was a great success.

So you see it is good work by the club and as such you should be happy

He's been playing centre midfield for the past two seasons.

Hearts didn’t fancy him at the back and in fairness to him it would be a big ask for anyone to convert position in little over 18 months of football considering how stop start it’s been.

That's one way of doing it. Although, if we're adamant that he's not going to make it, we could offer him a settlement on his contract which would offset any contribution Arbroath are making.

I'd like to think he still has a chance and he comes back an improved player. Not seen a great deal of him tbh.

Something that this list shows is there is a hell of a lot of ‘first teamers’ who should/need to perform this season or it could be bye bye at the end of the season.

Obviously if they do start the season really well we need to be quick to offer any deserving new deals before Jan comes along.

Alloa was shite, but getting papped out by a club in the same division is not a shock to me or for cup football in general.

Be similar to St Mirren, Killie, Hamilton or such mince knocking us out this year.

Shite, but not quite a shock.

Brora on the other hand.... 😭

Same old story every season and again it doesn't seem like it's a priority our midfield is nowhere near good enough.

That all depends on whether or not our current style of play is down to our current midfielders not being good enough or if that's actually how Robbie wants us to play (bypass the middle of the park unless absolutely necessary, with the ball 100% of the time being played wide or long), if it's the latter we could have a midfield two of Veratti and Modric and it wouldn't make a jot of difference.

Utter drivel.

Alloa were relegated and were god awful. Losing to them was completely unacceptable and was a shock.
