No idea on the validity of those videos, but let's face it, they're going to attempt a land grab on Eastern Ukraine at some point and nobody is going to jump in to help.

They can do what they like and nobody will stop them. The Ukrainian army will do their best but ultimately would be overwhelmed.

The west will posture and carry out more sanctions.

Looks like it, it would be to connect Russia with Crimea, which is a massive area of land they'd have to take.

First thing they did was build a big bridge to physically link them together.

Its a test to see what Bidens got. They didn't need to do anything of this nature with the previous President as they had him in the bag. That eastern block has always been an annoying boil on the worlds arse. The only problem is if you tried to lance it, it could come back with a bigger lance. Since  the end of WW2 I have never known a world of true peace, there has  always been the claim that one of them had the biggest weapon, sort of like a barrack room until there has been open view in the showers, then you knew for sure, but this is different because proof means a lot of deaths.

They've been "testing" us all for years, over and over again.

It's not a test mate, It's a tune up for when they finally pull the trigger.

Yes, I agree, it looks more serious than just a bit of sabre rattling. Would cost them an absolute fortune to move that much men and equipment for just kicks and giggles.

I know but they've got 40,000 troops on the border at Crimea and 40,000 on the Eastern border, suggests that if they were to invade, they'd be looking to take that area of land between Crimea and Russia.

I guess Russia (and China as well for that matter) feel there is a weak President in the White House at the moment and so will push the envelope where ever they feel like.

This is the Russia thread, mate, although I'd be up for an Israel bashing thread if you'd care to start one.

Russia/Putin have a deep desire to be seen as a superpower. A match for the US which in reality they are most definitely not. They pine for a return to the status they had in the old days of the Soviet Union.

In saying that not the US/NATO nor anybody else for that matter would relish the thought of trying to take them on in their own backyard of Eastern Europe. They don't have anything like the global military capacity of the US but regional territory is a different matter.

If Russia did decide to get serious about it I’m sure they could walk into Ukraine no problem. However the problem they always have is that a conscript army isn’t up to scratch if it comes against professionals. Or a hugely stubborn opponent as they discovered in Afghanistan.

I think things have changed a bit in the last 20 years. They've updated all their hardware & equipment and are a very modern fighting force nowadays. They've got over 1million contracted professional personnel, including 410,000 professional infantry. 2million conscripts with 200,000 infantry.

Indeed. It looks ominous for the Ukraine. It will be blitzkrieg type stuff if the Russians blow the whistle.

Bit concerned that this isn't just orchestrated sabre rattling over Ukraine (and the Chinese over Taiwan) to test Biden's presidency. It's like Putin wants a scrap, because if he was serious about Ukraine surely the time to strike was when the orange buffoon was in charge.

The Russians have been talking about a Srebrenica in the Donbass for some time

This is the inevitable escalation.

An apocalyptic war with Russia would be less painful than a Lawson comeback on Kickback tbh.

Nyet nyet comrade, they were on a sightseeing tour of historic buildings in Prague after a recommendation from a friend, if they were there at the same time as an explosion it is purely coincidental.

Things look bleak for the Ukrainians right now. With the number of troops and equipment the Russians are building up on the border they could waltz in and have full control within 48hrs and NATO and the UN will do nothing except slap a few more sanctions for fear of escalating things further and Russia know this - nobody wants a large scale war.

It'll be exactly like Georgia/South Ossetia/Abkhazia.

Russia will provoke, wait for Ukraine to fire first then crush them in a week or so and absorb the rebellious eastern provinces into the Russian Federation.

Not a good sign when they are all expelling each others diplomats. That suggests that all attempts at a diplomatic solution have been exhausted.

Russia are even threatening invasion if the Ukraine pushes its troops into the contested Donbas region, seeing even that, as a provocation. It looks like the Russians are itching for a fight and they might even manipulate the situation to justify it.

Let's see Nato put troops on the Ukraine/Russia border. A wee training exercise.

They do all the time on Russia's borders in the Baltic states like Estonia and Latvia.
