conn artist
Hi, Looking for any recommendations for any companies/builders or such like that anyone has used that could take out an old cast iron fireplace and brick up the space left behind. Its a bit cold and drafty and just not needed anymore. Seems there are a lot of folk out there who want to install shiny new fireplaces and all that but not get rid of them. Given this is in an upstairs bedroom a replacement is not needed. Thanks in advance.
¼½¾
Some cast iron fireplaces can be worth a bit. It might be worth looking into that, before disposing of it.
conn artist
Its a fairly unremarkable 1930's job so not sure it would be but I would look to pass it onto someone who could make use of it rather than the scrapheap.

On a small point......consider the ventilation you are about to cut off by blocking the fireplace, you may need to also install a wall vent. Boof
Also, remember to stick a fake skeleton behind the blocked up bit - just to scare the shite out of whoever comes along next and thinks they might fancy a fireplace in that room.

With a SHSC1930 medallion. Remember to put a mushroom /elephant's foot on the chimney pot. Stop the rain and birds getting in and allows airflow which will prevent condensation. An air brick may be required at the fireplace as well. 👍 Edited April 12, 2021 by ri Alban

The idea is you advertise a job like this with your requirements and interested local builders will respond. You can then check out their feedback on jobs they have completed to see if they are OK. I've used it a couple of times for smaller jobs and it has worked a treat. Only thing is I would guess at the moment every single half decent builder will be rushed off their feet. Seems like boom time at the moment. 👍

If it was house and the chimney was not in use, I'd get rid of it and slate/tile over it, they're just rain egress magnets that are fortune to maintain. Frame, plasterboard and skim the fireplace yourself. £
