Cade
Plenty crashes on the first stage. Massive one right now, caused by a twat turning his back on the riders to show a sign to the camera.

Tazio
Bad crashes. Hopefully not a sign it’s going to be a year with lots of crashes. The rider that just missed the telegraph pole is a very lucky boy indeed. Also another race where I watched MvdP and wondered if he has any racing brain or tactics apart from full gas and trying to burn off his rival. Great to watch but I feel he could be even more successful if he was more tactically aware.

Tazio
Marc Soler was in the big 2nd crash but finished the stage. Now withdrawn after it was discovered he’d cracked bones in both elbows. Those boys are hard as nails.

How many of these riders finished the stage? I watched the entire stage yesterday and all through it the commentators were expressing their concerns about a major pile up near the end due to the nature of the route. However there’s no accounting for the stupid lassie with her sign, hope she gets the book thrown at her.
Tazio
As a wee interesting side event Lachlan Morton who rides for EF Education is doing another one of his endurance challenge type rides during the tour. Riding solo he’ll be attempting to finish the race ahead of the riders. But in the spirit of 1903 so no support vehicles, no transfers between stages so having to ride to the start of the next stage straight away. Tazio
Article about the Lachlan Morton ride. The numbers are mind boggling in terms of how much further and how much more climbing he will have to do. I also should have mentioned he is doing it with his bike fully loaded as he is doing the whole route wild sleeping so carrying his own tent, sleeping bag, cooker, etc. And if he manages to his schedule he’ll only get to the finish line 6 hours ahead of the race. https://cyclingtips.com/2021/06/interview-lachlan-morton-on-the-gear-and-motivation-behind-his-alt-tour/

Geraint dislocated his shoulder in the early crash. Team medic shoved it back in and he finished the course. These guys are tough as nails, man.
