Thank you for your amazingly generous donation on behalf of McCrae’s Battalion Trust Huge.

Like most charities, our fundraising took a real hit in the last year. We are only a small charity but our responsibilities remain unchanged. We make an annual donation to the village of Contalmaison, which funds a modest Christmas party for all the young kids in the villages of the old Somme front line. We managed  that last year and covered all our other regular costs.

At the moment our principal undertakings are the new Memorial bench for Gary Tait and Patricia Leroy and the ongoing question of acquiring the land adjacent to the Cairn. It’s extremely important that we acquire this land, basically to prevent any development next to the Cairn. Thankfully, the bench manufacturers are going back into production next month and we have notary in France regarding the land. We are also funding educational materials to help raise the understanding of the sacrifice made by our lads in WW1. The only monies coming in are from annual members subscriptions and Glencorse Golf Club, from their McCrae’s Trophy so you can imagine that every penny is a prisoner.

We are desperate to get out to Contalmaison to pay our respects to the lads of McCrae’s Battalion and hopefully, you can also consider coming on our annual Pilgrimage when we get back to some kind of normality.

We just wouldn’t be able to function without the support of folk like the JKB community so, again, thank you very much.

How much will the land next to the Cairn cost?

The Trust have been attempting this for years. French law is extremely complicated and there are a number of other issues. It's not simply about having the money to enact it. So beyond saying that notaries are actively working on our behalf sadly I am not able to tell you any more.
