Maroon Sailor
You said, we did Speaking to the local community As these measure are about protecting our local residents and supporting business to operate safely during the covid-19 pandemic, we need to put these temporary measures as quickly as we can. These means we’re not able to carry out the full consultation process that we would for permanent projects. We have, however, followed the guidance set by the Scottish Government on how to engage with the public when introducing Spaces for People measures. This includes engaging with local stakeholders, community representatives and our key partners. Following their feedback and comments from residents and local business on the initial proposals, we've made these changes: Loading and unloading You said we needed to look again at the plans for loading and unloading for businesses and residents. What we did We've kept all loading bays on the current route. You can still load and unload along the route, including areas marked with single and double yellow lines. Dropping off children You said that we needed to keep access for parents dropping off and collecting children from nurseries. What we did We've revised the designs to include additional parking at Cranley Nursery Lanark Road Nursery. Parking outside businesses and leisure facilities You said that we needed to maintain parking at a number of key business and leisure locations along the route. What we did We've revised the designs to include additional parking at Dovecot Park Inglis Green Road Kingsknowe Golf Course Redhall area. Lothian Bus Longstone depot You said that you were concerned about impact on the depot. What we did We've spoken to Lothian Buses and discussed the changes around he depot. They are comfortable with the plans and do not expect them impact on the depot or bus operations. Blue Badge holders You said to make sure we keep access and parking for Blue Badge holders. What we did We've maximised general parking along the route. Blue Badge holders can also park in the loading bays or anywhere loading is permitted. Bus stop bypasses You said you wanted us to consider in more detail about installing bus stop bypasses (where the cycle lane passes between the bus and the bus stop). What we did We've delayed introducing them. We'll discuss them in more detail with the local stakeholders, community representatives and organisations that are concerned about them. We'll provide more detailed information about how they work and include a pre-construction road safety audit. Emergency services You said we needed to consider the impact the plans would have on emergency service vehicles. What we did We engaged with emergency services to keep them informed of our plans. Emergency vehicles are allowed to stop anywhere along the route, where they deem it is safe to do so

Dennis Reynolds
All part of the plan, imo. Make it so car unfriendly in the hope that folk ditch the cars. Without making any meaningful upgrades to any other part of the infrastructure though it means it's destined to fail. The fact that all of these changes are being roundly ridiculed by motorists, pedestrians, cyclists etc says it all. I would love less cars on the road but there needs to be a bit of give and take and that's before we even have a sniff of the conversation about the state of the roads. been here before
I cycle along Longstone Road today. What a ****in disaster it is... This is the roundabout outside the bus garage... ...no idea what those chevrons are supposed to do except force you into the flow of traffic. Then hit this... ...doesnt look much but some dick had smashed a bottle or two in the lane. Not the fault of the council obviously but how are you supposed to cycle round it given the cars parked in the middle of the road? And a wee bit further on it was time to tackle this... ...ordinarily no bother, quick look over the shoulder, arm out and round it we go but again thanks to the cars in the middle of the road impossible to miss. That doesnt take into account the cars just parked ignoring the lanes, the passangers getting into cars or out of cars who naturally arent used to checking gor bikes coming along side them. All that within about half a mile. A total ****in disaster.
Maroon Sailor
As has been mentioned on this thread going along Longstone towards the bus depot you actually turn in to traffic coming towards you - I decided to slow down and let the 36 bus coming the other way get through the chicane opposite the Longstone Hearts as he had to get round the cars parked half way across the road Edited April 2, 2021 by Maroon Sailor
