Will the council be liable if somebody gets killed getting out of their car in the middle of the road?  Absolutely batshit crazy setup.

Getting kids out the car and their buggy's, shopping bags etc .... you run the risk of getting hit either side now.

The comments in that link above shows that MacInnes and McVey don't give a toss about public opinion with this Spaces for People nonsense.

The proposed bike lane on the roundabout at Longstone (by bus terminal) is so unnecessary. I cycled that roundabout twice every day for 6 years and never had a problem once, seldom even needed to stop on entry either...

Only the CeC could cut down Ponton St to 2 lanes from 3 and introduce a bus stance (for the 124 to North Berwick) outside the Health Centre in the lane for turning right!

There plan to reduce kerbside parking to facilitate outside drinking and dining is another nonsense as are their plans to cut off sections of George St for events!

Totally - they seem to have Edinburgh confused with the south of Spain.  People don't want to drink or dine in the freezing cold or pissing rain.

"A surcharge will also be introduced in the near future for diesel-fuelled vehicles. We expect to start this in the Summer of 2021, however we’ll write to you again nearer the time to explain what the changes mean for owners of diesel vehicles."

I don't keep greatly up to date but noticed this in an email from them about sunday parking

How do these councillors get the power to do that ?

They are elected to represent people as opposed to pissing people off

That explains that then !

That single parking space in the middle of the road at Longstone is farcical.

Not Preston street residents, parents of children at Preston Street Primary school are happy that a perceived danger has been removed. Checking Crashmap it shows that in the last 22 years there have been 5 minor car crashes involving cycles in the immediate vicinity of the school and zero fatalities so any impact felt from Spaces for People is simply convenience (less cars parked to drop off/pick up from outside the school) and has zero to do with safety.

We were out this afternoon and were going to Asda at Chesser, so I made a point of going down the Lanark Road.

That is just plain ridiculous even by Edinburgh Council standards.

You said, we did

Speaking to the local community

As these measure are about protecting our local residents and supporting business to operate safely during the covid-19 pandemic, we need to put these temporary measures as quickly as we can. These means we’re not able to carry out the full consultation process that we would for permanent projects. We have, however, followed the guidance set by the Scottish Government on how to engage with the public when introducing Spaces for People measures. This includes engaging with local stakeholders, community representatives and our key partners.

Following their feedback and comments from residents and local business on the initial proposals, we've made these changes:

Loading and unloading

You said we needed to look again at the plans for loading and unloading for businesses and residents.

What we did

  • We've kept all loading bays on the current route.
  • You can still load and unload along the route, including areas marked with single and double yellow lines.

Dropping off children

You said that we needed to keep access for parents dropping off and collecting children from nurseries.

What we did

We've revised the designs to include additional parking at

  • Cranley Nursery
  • Lanark Road Nursery.

Parking outside businesses and leisure facilities

You said that we needed to maintain parking at a number of key business and leisure locations along the route.

What we did

We've revised the designs to include additional parking at

  • Dovecot Park
  • Inglis Green Road
  • Kingsknowe Golf Course
  • Redhall area.

Lothian Bus Longstone depot

You said that you were concerned about impact on the depot.

What we did

  • We've spoken to Lothian Buses and discussed the changes around he depot. They are comfortable with the plans and do not expect them impact on the depot or bus operations.

Blue Badge holders

You said to make sure we keep access and parking for Blue Badge holders.

What we did

  • We've maximised general parking along the route.
  • Blue Badge holders can also park in the loading bays or anywhere loading is permitted.

Bus stop bypasses

You said you wanted us to consider in more detail about installing bus stop bypasses (where the cycle lane passes between the bus and the bus stop).

What we did

  • We've delayed introducing them.
  • We'll discuss them in more detail with the local stakeholders, community representatives and organisations that are concerned about them.
  • We'll provide more detailed  information about how they work and include a pre-construction road safety audit.

Emergency services

You said we needed to consider the impact the plans would have on emergency service vehicles.

What we did

  • We engaged with emergency services to keep them informed of our plans.
  • Emergency vehicles are allowed  to stop anywhere along the route, where they deem it is safe to do so

I ****in detest "You Said, We Did" stuff and the utter wanks who continue to use it.

'Stakeholders, key partners, bus stop bypasses, engaged with' its all wank corporate psychobabble.

The most ridiculous bit of that is...

What kind of arsehole planning dept would need told there would be a need to keep access for parents dropping their children off at a nursery for **** sake?

Going to Tesco Corstorphine from the Broomhouse side is horrendous.

Constant gridlock because of this.

All part of the plan, imo. Make it so car unfriendly in the hope that folk ditch the cars. Without making any meaningful upgrades to any other part of the infrastructure though it means it's destined to fail. The fact that all of these changes are being roundly ridiculed by motorists, pedestrians, cyclists etc says it all. I would love less cars on the road but there needs to be a bit of give and take and that's before we even have a sniff of the conversation about the state of the roads.

I'm surprised Edinburgh Cyclist hasn't been lamped yet. He goes around the City sticking leaflets under people's windscreen wipers, pulling up taxi drivers and basically just dobbing people in.

Plenty room there to pass the parked car, no need for him to push the wing mirror in.

I went from Drumbrae North onto Queensferry Road last night.  Traffic is down to one lane and queued over the hill due to the unnecessary cycle lane and bollards.

Later I drove along Ferry Road and noticed there are a few bent bollards indicating accidents.

These arseholes need removed.  Remember that the SNP and Labour got into bed to keep the Tories out.  Its local issues and these clowns are dangerously incompetent yet arseholes keep voting on national issues instead of considering local impact.

I'd much rather have the Tories run the Council than these incompetents.

There was a car accident at Longstone and a woman passenger injured by a cyclist on Lanark Road .

Both incidents last few days due to new cycle lanes and stupid parking measures.

Well done Edinburgh Council !

I cycle along Longstone Road today. What a ****in disaster it is...

This is the roundabout outside the bus garage...

Screenshot_20210402-175402_Gallery.thumb.jpg.c06ffdcb34714fb51a18532bcd992f07.jpg

...no idea what those chevrons are supposed to do except force you into the flow of traffic.

Then hit this...

Screenshot_20210402-175441_Gallery.thumb.jpg.c8e1ad7fe1a5bc272f66a803da36067b.jpg

...doesnt look much but some dick had smashed a bottle or two in the lane. Not the fault of the council obviously but how are you supposed to cycle round it given the cars parked in the middle of the road?

And a wee bit further on it was time to tackle this...

Screenshot_20210402-175425_Gallery.thumb.jpg.a0fc0bd43d8476a5958d8d2262d5e522.jpg

...ordinarily no bother, quick look over the shoulder, arm out and round it we go but again thanks to the cars in the middle of the road impossible to miss.

That doesnt take into account the cars just parked ignoring the lanes, the passangers getting into cars or out of cars who naturally arent used to checking gor bikes coming along side them.

All that within about half a mile. A total ****in disaster.

As has been mentioned on this thread going along Longstone towards the bus depot you actually turn in to traffic coming towards you - I decided to slow down and let the 36 bus coming the other way get through the chicane opposite the Longstone Hearts as he had to get round the cars parked half way across the road

Ive watched that a few times and really cant see the problem. The tyre is a couple of inches over the white line?

I could understand if the car was blocking the lane, stradling the line or what have you but a ****in wing mirror? What a cock.

I think the problem with Longstone is that there was a lot of locals against the changes but the council being the council they just revamp the plans to appease the concerns hence why it's an abortion along there now.

Instead of saying yes we have listened and therefore we won't be going ahead with it, they just fudge it.

They won't give up with these bus stop bypasses either

Make sure you are facing downhill on Comiston or Lanark Road

Happy enough to cycle on a pavement though and go through a red light 🤷🏻‍♂️

On a side note to cycle lanes , why are the lanes laid out at traffic islands with a huge increase in lane size ? The ones I notice most are the new ones on Corstorphine high street ,

He likes to have his say with taxi drivers as well.

Another cyclist got lamped by a taxi driver on Regent Road (bit of aggro that started half way along Princes Street) for basically acting like a cock as well.

He parked his taxi, got out and smacked him one !
