A lot of the 'pro Meghan' commentators are under estimating the Royal Family. Just heard Polly Toynbee on BBC News.

They are much more adaptable now than given credit for. Prince Charles for example would be a better King than often predicted.

Just curious,  what would you say makes a good king? I know for a lot of republicans,  the very notion of a hereditary monarchy is what bothers them, rather than the individual personalities. People tolerate the queen,  but I'm not really sure what Charles could do to get people onside,  he's just not a very likeable character.

Charlie boy has been meddling in Government affairs for years, as the "black spider memos" leak proved.

Once he actually gets hold of the powers of the Crown he'll be even worse.

The British Crown has far, far more powers than most people realise and it's only because they've chosen not to use them that they've not been taken away from them.

If they wanted to they could cause absolute chaos.

All in their own best interest.

They do exert their influence. Only they get other people to do it in their name.

Toynbee is probably the best example you’ll ever find of a middle class white woman pretending to be a social warrior

She will be delighted that Covid has polished off a few thousand old Brexit voters.

I saw this on Twitter  . It’s a card from princess Charlotte to her granny Diana . It shows how desperate the royals are and scummy to try and court favour with the public after issues of racism plus Andrew to use a wee girl to do this . When do they ever post personal stuff like this ? Yes the sentiments from Charlotte are sincere but to use it publicly is galling . To think that her great granny might have had involvement in the granny’s death makes it even worse . It shows the levels the royals will sink to really in their dirty campaigns against those who don’t tow the party line .

Does Jackie Baillie have a villa in Tuscany?

Toynbee pretends to speak for the proles while never going anywhere near them, especially during Brexit. The term champagne socialist is probably defined by her.

I had a daughter, have two granddaughters, and all have been sentimental on occasions such as birthdays, mothers days, Christmas etc, its a wee girl thing, they enjoy sentimentality, I am not sure that class or position would adversely affect that childhood thing.

I must have missed all the Granny Diana cards in previous years.

George wrote one as well, so not just a wee girl thing on this occasion.

My daughter was throughout her short life a sentimentalist, our son if you asked about cards would ask what are they, he is fantastic now, he phones me every couple of days and thats his system. Love, in all classes is shown in their own particular way, I suppose whether we like it or not this is the Royals way of demonstrating to the lieges how they do it.

Maybe William & Kate's kids have done this every year, if so then why is this year the first we've heard of it, and if this is the first year they have done made cards, then why publicize it, especially coming so soon after the Harry & Meghan interview.

It looks like a publicity stunt to me I'm afraid.

Does that description not describe the whole sad situation. The Royals used to avoid the system, media hounds love it because it keeps the situation in the light, it is called tit for tat and is a poor strategy because it only keeps the situation going, the Royals advisers should advise ignoring any comments, and stay quiet. Again with all the modern days means of communication that seems an impossibility.

Should have done a 2 hour chat show piece with Queen Oprah.  Oh wait their uncle and aunt beat them to it.

Ive got 2 young daughters and you are right. Doesn’t mean that publishing this kind of stuff isn’t directly linked to recent events.  They are on a PR offensive and using the kids and Diana is as hilarious as it is disgusting.

Indeed it does.

We are watching a family tear itself apart in the full spotlight of the media & the public.

Said previously I've no real interest in the media frenzy over the royal family fall out but if it means that Lizzie is the last queen/king of Scotland then all's good

I do love Polly Clothes Peg. She finds reasons to vote Labour even when Labour are an utter disaster, such as the leadership of Magic Grandpa.

Corbyn was useless, but Johnson isn't any better. A total chancer.

Some of her opinions are baffling. She’s also woeful when it comes to predictions. “People won’t vote for Brexit” she said, typing away at her town house in central London. I doubt she’s even heard of Hull, let alone been there.

Polly Toynbee. I believe when she started out, she was the BBC's royal correspondent long before Nicholas Witchell.

Met Jennie Bond at a corporate do in Glasgow once, not long after she had been on I’m a celebrity, she was gust speaker. She made the mistake of bringing her daughter along, who was attracting much more male attention than her mother.

edit - at least 4 years after I’m a celebrity before I get accused of falling into the Prince Andrew camp

Just had a look at Twitter. That was enough to convince me to log off Twitter straightaway. The two of them want their privacy so I'll happily do that by ignoring them and this interview.

Very good Geoff.  I am also happy to guarantee their privacy by ignoring them completely.

Wish the media would join us in this endeavour.  They absolutely would not like that one bit.

I was just informed that this whole show has been put on because she's in talks to stand as the Democrat nomination for President in 2024, and I'm too scared to look up if this is true.

I thought you meant Oprah and thought she was rather old. Now having checked the odds see you meant Meghan Markle at 33-1

Not old enough if America's Brezhnev is anything to go by.

Why wouldn't Biden seek a second term? 2024 doesn't make sense.

It’s surely a bit unrealistic to expect a tv personality, with no previous experience of government at any level, who many people think is economical with the truth, to run for POTUS and actually win.

But wait a minute. 33/1 you say?
