I have heard from someone who works at Holyrood Palace that a certain lady down south was thoroughly pissed off at the wall to wall TV coverage of Phils death.

Apparently, she's quite fond of watching the telly and a was a bit irritated that she couldn't try to escape from it all for a bit by watching the box and trying to unwind.

Apparently Phillip, who was famously impatient, so much so that he was once caught on camera telling a photographer to "just take the ****ing picture" designed his own modified Land Rover hearse.

He spent 16 years perfecting this design.

16 years.

Tbf it seems very complicated.

"A Land Rover that can carry a coffin"

"We could take the back out a defender like a flat bed?"

"Will the coffin move about?"

"Rubber stoppers to keep it in place.......colour?"

"....Green...."

"Really...thats a shit colour"

"....But I like green"

"Ok"

"How long will it take?"

"16 years"

"OK....I'll take some vitamins "

Its got no Reg so I presume it won't be on public roads.

Technically it needs to be a meteorite as meteors don't touch the ground.....

Census workers forced to take a day's unpaid leave and told to make their hours up later.

Care Quality Commission told not to release any reports during the "national period of mourning".

National Institute for Healthcare Excellence pauses medicine awareness alerts to GPs and Pharmacists as "a mark of respect".

What a joke of a nation.

Anyway, the more I read and hear the more I say 'Fair play to you, son.  Pip has been harshly portrayed by a great many.  Still it's time England binned their monarchy. We did it over 300 years ago.

I'm not a supporter of the concept of a monarchy and I also think the coverage from the BBC was way over the top. I also think that some of the coverage was wrong in tone. While any death is sad, the passing of a 99 year old who has had a generally good life, while of course sad for his loved ones, does not come within the tragic category.

That being said, from a purely historical perspective the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh is not without significance. To give some perspective, I often read one of the main Italian newspapers - and on the day of his death, the top 5 stories on its website were all about  Philip's passing. On the main state broadcaster that evening the Royal Family was described as the most famous family in the world - and thinking about it that is probably factually correct. Furthermore, whatever one thinks of the Duke, his family background and life story are undoubtedly interesting - leaving aside the fact that he's a member of the Royal Family.

As for the funeral, I suspect that many of those who are against the monarchy will either watch some of the funeral or at least see highlights of it on the news or read about it. And that's the thing about the monarchy. Many of those who claim to be against it - if truth be told absolutely love the whole soap opera of it all.

The big question for me is...will the radio be shit again tomorrow?

No, I think Sportsound are doing a special this afternoon with live coverage of the funeral.  Commentary is by Liam McLeod with analysis by Willie Miller, Derek Ferguson and Tam McManus.  Dick Gordon of course as anchor man.  Should be good. (Tom English was not available apparently).

I notice there are no Celtic minded pundits on the panel.

Turned on BBC Breakfast this morning. Seems to be a lot of fuss over this funeral. I thought he said he didn’t want any fuss.

Tbf, it's not the Royals themselves that are going overboard (apart rom Andrew and Harry's bitching about uniforms). More the bbc itself trying to justify the entertainment tax they take from us. You know the stuff, no one does these occasions like the bbc blah, blah, blah.

That’s positively good taste compared to the one that was being mocked on Twitter of Captain Tom Moore standing at the pearly gates welcoming Prince Philip.

I just switched over to the coverage out of a sense of curiosity.
So much for a simple funeral. I thought they were just driving him to the church in the Land Rover and dropping him off for a hymn or two. Bloody loads of pageantry and shiny hats in attendance.

If this is low key, can you imagine when the queen dies? and surely that 30 must include the singers and military, makes a mockery of the people who have had lockdown funerals
