Well done Hickey.

But Hearts have signed plenty of these highly rated youngsters in the past who never went on to do anything, for us or anyone else.

This isn't some obscure "Dumitru Copil" esque prospect we're looking at, this is someone we have helped develop and he's pushing on trying to better himself.  He was pretty damn good for us, and got a good move to a decent Serie A team, who are sitting quite happily in the middle of the pack.  Would say he's doing quite well for himself, at a young age.

He'll continue to get better and better.

two years ago when they did it a certain erling  braut haaland only sneaked into the top 50 at 50, players like ryan sessegnon and matteo guendouzi were in the top 20

I liked Hickey, always thought he wasn’t as good as he thought he was or as good as his dad thought he was.

massive potential took a brave move hope he makes it.

Did Hickey or his dad ever say how good they thought he was?  Or are you just making weird assumptions?

Hickey was clearly a very talented player who showed a fantastic attitude in every game, even when older more experienced players were falling to pieces.

The guy is getting paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to play football. I think he’s good too.

Unused sub again tonight. Hasn’t featured for a while. Might get him back on loan next season.

I would take anything like that with a pinch of salt tbh. Mind when Freddy Adu was meant to be the next Pele? I'm sure he will appear on one of those lists.

Kind of annoying that Scotland only seems to produce talented left backs. 🤔

Some forwards and centre halves would be nice.

Well done to the lad.

Aaron Hickey has joined the likes of Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund superstars Ansu Fati and Jude Bellingham on a list of highly-rated prospects in world football.

Hearts just get equal credit with Celtic for "training" him?

Very few teenagers are going to rock up to Serie A and play a full season - would potentially ruin them.

Sure. Serie A clubs often look to Scotland to loan out players! A lot of mean spirited comments on  this thread

It’s strange. Hickey was playing every week in Serie A until he got Covid.

I think he came in initially as the senior Left Back (Mitchell Dijks I believe) was out injured and he certainly impressed. But think Dijks is back now following Hickey getting Covid and there results have been pretty good. By all accounts Hickey is very highly rated by Mihajlovic, so expect him to be first choice next season.

Wasn’t meant as a mean-spirited comment at all. Only natural for him to return to uk IF he has to go out on loan to develop. Ryan Gauld rings a similar bell.
Assuming we are back in top league next season it’s a realistic possibility if he hasn’t impressed enough to be a first team squad regular. In recent games he hasn’t even been second pick at left back.  As another poster mentioned COVID effect  is a question mark.

There are two or three lower leagues in Italy that would be better loan out options for a player hoping to make it in Italy and for a club hoping that he will.

Did anyone really expect him.to be a first team regular this season? As it is he has actually been a first team squad regular.

He went there expecting to be a first team squad member at best. That's why he chose them over Bayren. As it stand he's been on the bench or starting almost every game he's been fit for. He's done brilliantly but illness could definitely have had an affect. Ginnelly wasn't the same after having it either although he had other issues.

The misery of the mingers would rather run down the lad, and the club, than recognise Aaron has a good CHANCE (there are no guarantees) he can make it.

Hickey will be just fine. Established himself already and if he doesn't make it there will have decent options to progress his career.

Compare that to the usual career path of shan english team with big money before bouncing back to scottish lower leagues.

I wouldn't worry about him not starting at the moment, he is back up to Dijks and that was the position when he moved there.

Ryan Gauld would not be the example I would use for going on loan to UK, his time at Hibs was mixed and the success he has had is by moving to other Portuguese clubs. In fact after moving down a league in Portugal after leaving Sporting, he has come back up and one of the hottest properties in Portugal. Braga are apparently wanting him in the summer, as well as Sporting wanting him back. To me it demonstrates more that if you want to make the most of going abroad, go to another team in that country. Liam Henderson did that in Italy after he played a few games in Serie A. He went on loan to Serie B and has enjoyed playing there.

David Bates moved to Hamburg, then went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and barely played due to a mixture of injury and the manager not being interested in him. This season he has gone to Belgium and is doing well (Jack Hendry of Celtic also has gone on loan to a club in Belgium and doing really well out there.)  My point being that if he needs experience and a loan, unless he is badly home sick, staying in the country or a similar foreign country can work a lot better now and help develop a player.

The last player with the potential of Hickey that we developed would imo be Levein. We aren’t in a place where we can afford to sign 18-20 year old players who are “wonderkids”. Don’t think we ever have been so this is a very weird comment to make imo

What you on about Hibs produce the best young strikers in Europe then punt them to Ross County

Hickey was quoted himself as saying that he only expected to start 1 game before Christmas so the run he got in the team was a big bonus for him. He will get his chances again and if it doesn't work out he'll have loads of options ahead of coning back here on loan

I know Hickey not with us any more, but it's pretty funny that this comes not that long after Dempster/Hibs claiming Ollie Shaw was one of the best youngsters in Europe.  Leave that to us, hen.
