The simple things

What simple things in life make you happy?

I get weirdly happy when the bins get emptied.

When I manage to turn the programme I’m watching back on the second the adverts finish.

Cooking for people who appreciate the effort and food.

Freshly cleaned bedsheets.

Warm towels after a shower in the winter.

Cake.

Same here. Ecstatic almost at the first one.

Can't beat it when you've given the kitchen a good clean and the house a good hoover. Feet up for the night with a beer knowing the house is spotless. :pleasing:

A Boy Named Crow

When I get up in the night to go for a slash, flush the toilet, wash my hands, then on the way out, flick the light off at exactly the same time the cistern stops filling. Rarely get it spot on...but that occasional time it works, what a feeling!

Filling the dishwasher just about as full as it can go before turning it on.

Alternatively, starting it when it still has a few gaps makes me disappointed.

Getting into bed to a hot electric blanket.  No woman could make you feels that good without touching your target.  In the top 10 best inventions ever.

Салатные палочки

Getting up early when I'm off and having the TV and living room to myself for a couple of hours before the rest of the house wakes up.  I'll make a coffee and watch something on catch-up with the heating on or just read the kindle with only one lamp on. Absolute bliss.

When the cat chooses to sit on my lap.

Watching University Challenge on iPlayer and fast forwarding up until Paxman starts the first question.

A good mug of hot chocolate.

The crunch of footsteps on a frosty lawn.

In my job toilets can be hard to come by. So when you are bursting for a shite, you are grateful you've made it to a toilet and it has toilet paper.

Good coffee

A Saturday or Sunday newspaper with all the pull outs

Classic FM in the background

No one else in the house

Aaahhhh!

When it starts raining when you've just got home with the dogs, not when you're at the furthest away point of the walk.

Honestly, I savour the time I get to myself these days, no matter what time of the day it is.

OK, for me...

When I bake a loaf of bread - especially if it's sourdough - that turns out perfectly and that you'd be paying £4.50 for in your local deli or artisan bakery.

When my homebrew turns out well.

When folk trip in the street.

When you catch folk doing the big head nod when they fall asleep on the bus.

Pressing all the lift buttons when exiting.

When you nail a long 3 pointer of rubbish into the bin.

Oh...

And when I successfully deposit my bus ticket in the hood of the person sitting in front of me.

Along the same lines I remember being very happy when I found a big display of egg timers in IKEA and set them all at 10 second intervals and walked away smugly.
Going into John Lewis and pairing the Bluetooth on your phone with a display speaker, popping some offensive music on nice and loud and popping your phone back in your pocket and watch the sales assistants scurry around.
I also enjoy doorbell displays in B&Q.

When I look at old pictures and remember the travel, career, family life and all the good things that I have had, and the feeling that I wouldn't call the Queen my auntie.

Modern lifts should have an anti-nuisance function fitted that will cancel all calls if it doesn’t detect anyone breaking the door detectors within two floors. Might still get away with it on some old lifts though

Listening to the sound of rain hitting the roof of the house, car, tent that I'm in, while I'm warm and dry inside.

Getting to the end of a film. Even if it's pap

Making a new coffee.

Those two are the big things in my life at the moment.

Oooh - this one too. Especially sitting outside with a chilled beer enjoying that smell after you've been responsible for creating it.

Also freshly sawn wood.

Weakened Offender

Been moving for a bus a few times when I've passed a pedestrian crossing, quickly pressed the button, and made it to the stop without having to break into a run as the green man has came on and halted the bus's progress. The rest of that journey is perfection. 👌

A particular favourite of mine being in a tent or caravan.

A morning shower (drives the wife mad)…I do maybe spend a bit too long in there😁

My first coffee of the day

The smell of my bacon cooking

Getting in the car knowing I drive an automatic
Catching sight of that volume level on my tv, car stereo being on an even number
Seeing people standing at a bus stop at 5am, knowing I’m going to my warm bed

Waking up before my alarm clock with more than 2 hours left before I get up.

TBF I've only done a desk (still standing after 3 years!) and a bookcase (a birthday gift for a mate that I'd neglected to even remember his birthday for the previous 10 or so years), but the satisfaction was off the charts.

Not sure what this year's woodworking project will be, but looking forward to it already.

I built a coat hook which was mounted on a balsa wood backer in 2nd year craft and design at school. The techy teacher tried to talk me into doing home economics the following year 😀

Dagger Is Back

Taking pooch for a walk and seeing him running about having fun

Falling asleep on the sofa and waking up to find pooch cuddling in

Shower and jammies on usually before 7pm

Getting a hug

Seeing kids achieve something when they were wanting to give up

Finding that someone’s thought ahead and left a fresh toilet roll just as you finish the last sheet

Accidentally leaving the alarm on and, when it goes of realising you're not actually going to work and you can just go back to sleep

This is one of mine. I'm always up first and love that first hour or so peace and quiet. Cup of tea/coffee and relax watching what I want for a change.

Fresh bed sheets is another.

Listening to the wind and rain battering against the window and I'm all snug and cosy in bed.

There's something really joyous about seeing a dog shaking itself dry, especially if the spray catches anyone nearby 😁

.... and another vote for a coffee. One of those old stovetop fellas, set it up before having a shower and getting dressed and it's ready. It's the coffee and the timing that's a simple pleasure every single time 🙂

Obviously the sex isn't as good, but a woman won't make you feel loved as much as an electric blanket does.

Morning coffee (the first one, in bed, is the best).

My shower and hair wash.

Feeling the sun on my face.

First, ice-cold, beer of the evening.

My wife.

I like waking up to a clean house. Especially on a Saturday morning.

Also, walking through traffic lights as the green man appears without breaking stride.

When you typed the last bit, did you say it in the Borat voice in your head?

I know!  😄

Almost as soon as I posted, I thought ‘someone is going to comment on the order they were in, or that my wife is ‘simple’.

There is no truth in either, however.
