They wee crispy things that go on the top are brilliant. Whatever happened to the sweet and sour one?

Crispy onions? We buy them by the plastic bucket from the world foods section at asda, superb!

Used to love the pastry on them as a kid, but wouldn’t touch one now🤮 Ye Olde Oak has to be one of, if not the worst canned crap out there. Remember years ago getting a Christmas hamper of their assorted tins and jars. We gave it all away, vile stuff

I wonder if a walk around the factory that make these"foodstuffs"would be like walking round the chocolate factory with Willy Wonka.🤔

All roads lead to Gorgie

I used to love Kraft Macaroni Cheese, the one with the cheese flavoured powder you added to milk after cooking the pasta. It was probably more chemical than cheese but I loved it as a kid.

It’s absolutely shite compared to homemade.

Lads over here wouldn't know meat and pastry if it smacked them in their national anthem.

I'd kill for a Fray Bentos, never mind a Greggs pie, never mind a Bains.

I have a garage full of Frey Bentos  pies ready for lockdown/brexit  which doesn't look like it will happen. That along with tins of spam beans and fruit.

And it takes pretty much the same time to make it.

And you can make it extra cheesy.

Not had a Fray Bentos pie for about 20+ years.

I do like a mince round with mashed tatties and beans as a filthy treat every now and again though.

Also partial to some tinned haggis every now and again too

Stirred into nice fresh pasta with a pile of oil and parmesan.

Lovely.

Farts are ****ing rank though.

Had my old dear smuggle a couple of tins over last time she came across. Premium it is not, but sliced on a roll it's not the worst substitute.

Grant’s tinned haggis is actually ok, if you can’t get the real McCoy.  👍

We’ve had it with pasta and also on a pizza.

It’s not three bad.

Ignore the cooking instructions, spoon it into a pan with some butter and heat it up that way. Tastes way better just try and ignore the fact it looks like 1980’s  cat food as you scoop it out.

Talking of inappropriately tinned foods my father-in-law is quite a fan of tinned curry. He has also in the past confessed to sharting while overstretching for a colour during a game of pool. I am not entirely sure whether these facts are related or not.

Loved these things!

This goes way back to the late '60s / early 70's, but Marks & Sparks used to sell a round mince pie, wrapped in cellophane which was the dug's. I'd often get one at lunchtime when I worked around Princes Street.

No need for a pic of one of them, I'm depressed enough.

These days, M&S do a number of different pies in either flaky or shortcrust pastry of which I'm quite fond.  In particular they have one called the Best Ever Steak Pie which goes down very well with a glass of Merlot.

Trigger warning: pic of steak pie

We used to get Fray Bentos regularly when we were bairns.Did anyone else get the sausage rolls that came out of a tin,I'm sure you got six of them covered in grease/paper that you unraveled then put in the oven.

Talking of shite tinned meat products of dubious content, we are discussing tinned hamburgers yesterday, preferably in onion gravy. Tins of 4.

Do such delicacies still exist?

Goblin hamburgers. Made from real goblin.

As soon as school finished on Friday , me and my mate would hitchhike up north to go climbing. The only food we took were tins of goblin burgers and tins of custard.Tasted great at the end of the day back then, but not too sure I would eat it now.

Back then I thought pizzas were deep fried as well. Deprived childhood😄 but I still liked that false cheesy flavour you got from Kraft. I still get it in cheese cracker biscuits with the filling, oh it takes me back.

Haha.

Looks a lot better than the one I was referring to but the potential high calorie count would rule it out for me. ;)
