By then you qualified by winning the league.

Ah the good old days before the "champions" league.

Hibs haven’t been in the European Cup since the days when you could gain entry once the better teams in your league had declined to participate and you could reach the semi-final by defeating two pub teams.

Quick bit of trivia as well.

Hibs never played in the European Cup by qualifying by winning the league and they never played in the Cup Winners Cup by ever winning the Cup.

Hearts won the League to play in the European Cup and won the Scottish cup to play in the Cup Winners Cup.

I'm confused  - that's some Hearts support, the TV cameras are on the half way line.  Did Hibs also have the Dunbar end at that time ?

That will be before segregation. 1972, I think. There will be Hibs fans in there too. Hibs fans did tend to have the Dunbar End to themselves. The other end had a structure which was known as The Cave, where Hearts and Hibs fans generally shouted abuse at each other and did the odd advance into the other’s territory.
All good, clean fun.

It was a fairly big ground before they took away the top level of the main terracing.

That's the 74/5 season and I was going to games then but I can't remember when Jambos got punted in the Dunbar end.

Lot's of "fun" on the terraces at that time.

You sure about the season? Did we not wear the traditional maroon top for that game on NYD 1973, to avoid a clash of the white sleeves for viewers who still had black and white tv. Also the reason Hibs are wearing an all green top in the photo.
We only wore the Ajax style strip for one season.

That's the centenary season strip. We only wore it 74/5 IIRC. But then I am having trouble remembering. 😄

My memory isn’t the best either, man, so I wouldn’t argue I am right, but I can’t remember us having a centenary strip either, although we may have had some embroidery on the tops to commemorate it. I don’t think the Ajax style strip was for our Centenary.
I only remember a special cover on each programme and the flag ceremony at the edge of the terracing shelter.

It’s 1972 Hearts wore the Ajax style kit for one season only1972/73

I was there that day with my old man in the enclosure under the old main stand with his Hibs mates

crowd would have been fairly mixed all around the stadium

We didn’t have a centenary strip per se, in our centenary season our kit was maroon top white shorts and socks, the same actually as it had been the previous season in 1973/74

That was my recollection.

I think we lost the game in the photo by 3-0.
We had a terrible record against them in the 70s. One of the few shining lights was the 4-1 win, the season after the NYD game.

The other thing that is different now, from then, is that both clubs wore changed strips for their home derby fixtures that season.

At that time, the home team changed for any clash of colours, but mainly for viewers of black and white tellys, to distinguish between teams, if the match highlights were being televised.

Hearts v Rangers, for example, we wore white tops and maroon shorts if it was to be shown on tv later.

No. Hibernian have never been in the European Cup since the inaugural competition in season 55/56. They finished 5th in the league. They have never qualified for the premier European club competition on merit.

They’re never too strong on facts. Only myth and fiction. Hence the nonsensical constant nonsense about flair and trailblazing, which only really exist in their imagination.

Their biggest denial is Hearts superiority over them, particularly since the early 80s. Always some tripe about uneven playing fields and financial irregularities from a club that has, in the recent past, had two severe financial crises, from overspending, which others have had to step in to save them from.

Absolutely, I remember asking one who was going in about the great deal they got with the mortgage for the newest stand if he knew how much you pay back on a mortgage. I think it was reduced or paid off by Farmer eventually bit had cost them a fair bit. The best one I heard off some random on twitter was that they only played 10 men against us in numerous games in the early 20th century. I looked online, asked him to show the proof, which obviously he didn’t/couldn’t and I ended up blocking him 😆😂
