Since Prowse has passed away, who is going to help kids cross the road now?

Met him when he was the GCC man. 😀

Also gave me prizes of sticks of rock at Blackpool for musical chairs as a kid. 😀

But as a huge Star Wars fan, I'm a bit gutted. Darth Vader was cool as ****. 😭

Shame he had a strong Somerset accent that James Earl Jones had to voice the Sith Lord 😁

Haha yeah it's a weird one as obviously never saw/heard him but he's who I always thought of as Darth growing up. Mind you, it still annoys me they replaced Sebastian Shaw as Anakin from the end of ROTJ.

An absolute legend.

It's difficult to act a character knowing that your voice will be overdubbed (and sometime the lines changed during that overdubbing), so Dave became almost a Mime, conveying Vader's thoughts and intentions simply through movement.

I remember heating that Arnold Schwarzenegger asked if they wanted him to do the German dubbing for the Terminator.  They had to say no because he has quite a ‘hick’ Austrian farmer accent.

As an aside, one of the strangest cases of overdubbing was Jack Hawkins, a British actor who was very prolific during the 1950s and a well-known face in films.

Throat cancer diagnosed in 1965 led to him having his entire larynx removed.

Most actors would have been forced into retirement, but Jack carried on getting speaking parts in films, and worked closely with two other actors (Robert Rietti and Charles Gray) who would over-dub his mouth-miming in the production process.

He'd appear in twenty more feature films until his death in 1973 during an operation to install an experimental artificial voicebox in his throat.

Was he not involved in some fundraising for Save our Hearts?

I recall it was something to do with the Polworth Tavern. I think the manager/owner at the time was related to him. I think the big man made a personal appearance in the PT

The current manager ( top geezer btw ) shares his surname so quite likely.
