'Remote' Office XMAS Party Thread.

Seasons greetings.

In more normal times no doubt we would mostly all be thinking about the 'works night out' - where. when, how much booze, past shenanigans and promising one selfs not to make the same mistakes again.

This year of course - very different. My office is talking about some kind of Zoon party call....which I think will just be taking a few hours out sitting remotely with a few drinks and chatting.

Anyone got any similar plans in the pipeline with regards to office xmas festivities this year? I have heard of some other approaches to virtual team events but none of them sound that appealing tbh. Or its just probably the fact hat socialising virtually  is not that great anyway....

Seemingly we are doing a 'virtual escape room', sure it'll be just as good as the scran and free bevvy at the dalmahoy we would have had instead

Sounds horrific. Hate Escape Rooms at the best of times, but an online one? Aargh.

Yeah will be utter guff, least I can crack open a few cans whilst still technically 'at work'

Me and some mates tried one of them during the dark times of summer. It was pretty crap. You all basically end up doing it on your own or until someone works out the puzzle first. Then just punch in the anwser to progress to the next step without you needing to understand how it was solved. I'd suggest a standard Quiz.

Socialise through a computer screen with a load of people I wouldn’t care to socialise with in real life?

That's an excellent point Taz well put. But one could argue remove the computer and your generally view point still applies.

I mean normally in face to face xmas work events there are always folks to avoid when 'partying'

Sadly I have no say in the matter, it's a 'paid for' one through an events company so no idea if it'll be any better than the one you tried

Perhaps aye. Mines was also paid for. By me. For £20! Just a random website though.

I actually quite like the folk in my team, get on well and would happily go for a few pints with them.

But sitting in the spare room with a few cans on a Teams meeting is not my idea of fun. I find it quite awkward and can't relax properly.

The whole zoom drinks thing got done to death by friends and I back in spring/summer. The amount of quizzes we did I'm fairly certain I could have won the chase. One of the guys was trying to get another one on the go a month or so back and I just flatly rejected the idea. The novelty wore off very quickly 🤣

Saying that, apparently the wives are setting up a zoom wine tasting for just before Christmas. Actually looking forward to it.... A bit.

I work in a very small team so doubt we'll do anything tbh. Probably just hold out and do something in the new year once this all dies down!

£20 for a virtual escape room?! Is that not more expensive than an actual escape room?

Салатные палочки

We're planning a Zoom quiz night. Quite glad that I can blame connection issues this year rather than just doing a disappearing act when I "nick to the toilet".

Top tip is just to disconnect from the wireless on your laptop, that way you 'stay' in the call while it tries to reconnect, looks better than just hanging up

I've had the invitation for one that's to be held over Zoom. I've no idea of the format but suspect there won't be any fingers getting wet.

You're probably right. It's more difficult to spill your drinks when you're on your own.

We did a couple of beer tasting nights in May/June for folk's birthdays. Everyone ordered  a box of the same 12 assorted beers and got them delivered. Worked out quite well.

Get absolutely ****ing rat-arsed for it, in the true Work Christmas Party spirit.  Even better if you're already spewing behind the couch before the majority of people even make it online.  Half beer, half orange juice for breakfast should set you up nicely, especially if you have 6 of them.

Zoom calls are a nightmare with more than 3 people on them at the best of times.  Adding loads more people and alcohol to the mix is just going to be carnage.

Aye,  we have a Zoom virtual party lined up. I'm the "table coordinator" for Finance. I reckon I'm going to coordinate it into a half day for us!

Half the team don't drink,  they have zero chat at the best of times. It'll end up being me and the gaffer doing all the talking... always a risky business when you're on the beers.

When I worked in Safeway, The Dalamahoy was one of the many places our store got banned from. :qqb006:
