Was thinking of getting this done to my Peugeot 207 hdi just for a wee bit more ooomph. Anyone know how easy/successful this is and any problems that may arise? Many thanks in advance

If you want a quicker car buy a quicker car. Chances are the standard clutch won't be able to handle the increase in torque so will start to slip.

Ridiculing someone who’s suffered financially during the pandemic just because of the car they drive.Classy.

usual suspects so no surprise there

Nobody is ridiculing you for driving a Pug, they are taking the piss out of you wasting money (and potentially invalidating your insurance) on trying to get a barely noticeable power increase out of a pug (despite being financially hit during the pandemic).

Doubt there would have been any piss taking had you said, 'since the pandemic i've changed jobs meaning I need to tow a trailer/carry extra weight in my car and it struggles sometimes, would remapping help?'

Thanks for clearing that up, though I wouldn’t think about getting it done without insurance approval

Polishing a turd springs to mind...

BUT

In my younger days in the 80's I put sports exhausts, suspension upgrades, carburettor upgrades etc etc etc on a 1978 1.3 Ford Escort 4 door. Spent a bloody fortune. Ended up replacing the engine and the gearbox twice and smashed the rear diff doing wheel spins!!! I was as proud as feck!

What can I say, young and dumb!

If you love it then go for it mate. Fek them all.

Don't regret it at all

What did your insurers say about it?  Were they ok?

Certainly worth it in a car like that

The drive train on any car is typically rated for about 150% of the standard power/torque. Should be no worries with the numbers we are talking about here.

Absolutely worth doing. Diesel engines respond very well to it. You might not get an appreciable difference in power, but you will definitely notice more torque.

A quick google search says that you’ll get 30% improvement in power from a stage 1 remap, more if you remove the dpf.

Which will then fail you your MOT...

If they notice. Mate of mine had his Audi A5 remapped and dfp removed. It passed the emissions test without the dpf so they never looked for it

I've got a 316d BMW and a quick google say's a stage 1 would give me a 57% increase in bhp, 32% in torque. That sounds great but what it doesn't tell me is how the increase is being achieved.

Each suppliers mapping can be different too, as can where they draw out the extra power, if it's the Ignition Timing then need to be careful of knock and also might need higher octane fuel, if it's the Air/Fuel Ratio then it might have a significant impact on emissions/economy, if it's the boost then your are adding heat and pressure in the cylinders etc so i'd say if anyone is actually getting their car chipped then make sure you know where the increases are coming from and be aware of their impacts on the rest of your car.

Then he is driving illegally:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-rules-for-mot-to-test-for-diesel-particulate-filter

"Garages and testing stations will be required check for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) in the inspection of the exhaust system as part of the MOT test (or annual test for heavy vehicles) from February 2014. The vehicle will automatically fail the MOT test if the filter had been fitted as standard but is found to be no longer present. The filter works by trapping solid particulate matter from exhaust gases. This type of filter has been in use for more than 20 years and helps meet European emission standards, improving air quality and health standards.

Some firms offer services to remove the filter, claiming it will improve the economy. But it is an offence to drive a vehicle that has been modified this way, as it will no longer meet the emissions standards the car achieved when it was approved for sale in the UK."

I've looked at this before as well.  Not entirely sure I trust it, as apparently I can go from 74bhp to 128bhp, which is a 72% increase...

Probably be a 72% increase on my insurance as well!

Have to take into account the age and mileage of the car. A remap on a car that really isn't bought for that purpose will most definitely put unnecessary stress on the standard clutch. I've owned performance cars that had the clutch slipping after a remap, I just cant see a Peugeot diesel hatchback being able to handle anywhere near 150% of it standard power.
