Ray Clemence passed away

If Peter Shilton never existed Clemence would have had well over 100 caps.

Dalglish would still have made him look like an arse in 76, pretty sure he scored against him the next year without even hitting the net.

RIP.

Still managed 61 caps though.
5 first division titles

2 FA Cups

1 League Cup

6 Charity Shields

3 European Cups

3 UEFA Cups

1 European Super Cup

Not a bad haul really.

Shilton had 125 caps, Clemence would have had most of these if Shilton wasn't about. You're right though, still a good haul.

Pretty sure he was part of the Spurs coaching team when we played them.

Actually, not quite sure but hope he was.

A tremendous keeper. Growing up IIRC England rotated Ray and Shilton as they were both viewed  as No 1. When Ray left Liverpool many thought that he was winding his career down but he went on to win trophies at Spurs too.

Depends which game against Spurs you mean. He left in the mid nineties and then worked for the England team for a number of years.

Part of that fantastic Liverpool side of the early/mid seventies.  What a side they were, topped off, in my opinion, with the brilliant pairing of Kevin Keegan and John Toshack.

I empathise, many contemporaries passed in 2020.  It is becoming a long list.

I'm crying here at this news. Ray Clemence was a world class goalkeeper. I personally thought he was better than Shilton and Shilton was some goalkeeper too.

As shown above, not a bad haul of medals and titles for a goalkeeper.

Ray Clemence a true legend of goalkeeping/football.

RIP Ray, you were indeed one of the best.

Sad to see another footballing great pass away

But for Shilton he would have been the most capped player of his time...the same is true of Shilton who though a record breaker would have smashed it but for Clemence

A true Liverpool legend and of course footballing legend given his service at other clubs and for England

As a 12 year old, I was on holiday at Skegness holiday camp back in 1978, Clemence was the 'guest' keeper who was in goals as 5 of us took part in the penalty competition.

I won with 4/5 and he presented me with my small trophy. I had my Scotland strip on too.

Remember him being massive (compared to a skinny wee 12 year old), but a lovely guy.

Yes, 1-0.  Around the mid-seventies actually.

And your point is, caller?

Not really I was there on a dreadful night (weather wise). I was also at the 2nd leg at Anfield when Toshack scored three to knock them out.  Going back further to 1970 I was at fester road when the reds won 1-0 in the then Fairs Cup. Toshack again, they never learned. LFC won the home leg 2-0 goals from Boersma and Heighway.

But I digress, RIP Clem, England's No. 1.

I’m not ‘wishing ill’ on you, Herbert.  Not at all.

I just hope that one day your smart arse comments come back to bite you on the arse.

I’m an extremely nice, kind and sensitive person by the way.

I suffer from learning difficulties but I am sure if you had known

then you would have been more sensitive.
