Thought he'd died years ago.

Anyway...

Tragedy, taken too young. Rest Easy. No age.

RIP. Thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family/friends.

Dead at 88

Always get him mixed up with Neil Sedaka. Sedaka is not dead yet, as far as we know anyway.

Sorry Neil, if you're watching.

Another one of they celebs who I honestly thought was dead years ago.

Shame for him to spend the last of his days locked up in the house, just like many other pensioners across the country.

RIP Des.

Des had a Rowan & Martin style show in the 70s produced by Lord Grade for the American market.  One of the sits was comic com9ng on to the stage and pose a "knock knock" type question to Des.

Bearing in mind this is the 70s, I always remember the one "joke", I think it was Eddie Large who posed the question:

Q: What is a homogenous?

Des: I don't know, what is a homogenous?

A: A poof with 5 A levels

I can live with that.

These cliched replies on  RIP threads are a bit like those folk that go OTT with the poppies.

More important to be seen doing something rather than put any thoughtful sincerity into it.

For what it's worth mate I enjoy your posts and get exactly the point you're making. Some people need to lighten up a bit.

Indeed. Its nae bother though.

Was in a bit of a quandry earlier mind. I noticed Ray Clemence had died and no-one had started a thread on it... was sorely tempted

Id really love to know the thought processes of posting the 'sending thoughts to the family' type posts. Do folk sit there trying to  communicate telepathically? Do they think Celeb Xs family will be reading kickback? If not then its empty words. If they do then its pretty mad stuff.

And what age is 'no age'?

Its not just here. Look on any forum when someone 'famous' dies and its the same posts word for word. Folk post this cliched stuff without thinking but needing to be seen. Its their choice, to each their own and all that I suppose but it baffles me.

Not getting your gripe with RIP threads.

Personally, I've never posted RIP on any.

But, will say sad to to hear of their passing. As in this case, he was a good fun entertainer and enjoyed him on TV.

His appearances on Morecambe and Wise always totally ridiculed.

But, your going too far. These threads are just to give a quick reminisce of someone who has passed away.

Are we not allowed to have a reflect in your book.

I dont have a gripe with RIP threads. You're missing the point with that.

I do find the sanctimonious 'thinking of the family, sending condolences, thoughts and prayers' along with the cliched 'no age' type stuff  ridiculous. Its posting to be seen, to say 'look at me I'm sending thoughts' but I cant be arsed actually thinking.. As for the newer '2020 can do one/get to ****', Im presuming thats the latest buzz phrase on Facebook or somesuch.

Does anyone know what 'no age' is?

By all means reminisce, tell tales, swap stories or whatever, its what normal people do. Ive even taken part myself on occasion. But do spare me the funereal telepathy.

Fair enough.

You were the 4th post on this thread.

How about calling it a day with your predictable post. You've made your point. Leave it that.

Exactly mate. I just took it as a wee laugh about the meaningless platitudes we can all be guilty of at these times. Like you say, it's very unlikely that the family of Ray Clemence or Does O'Connor will be reading this site. Des liked a laugh anyway so I'm sure he'll see the funny side anyway.

That's some golf game he and Bruce Forsyth will be having up there in Heaven...

It's went from funny to repetitive tedious smartarse.

You know from the Frank Bough thread, I take these lightly.
