The wonderful news about Peter Sutcliffe reminded me of this sick ****. Phoned the police at the time of the Yorkshire Ripper murders claiming to be the killer.

Despite being told by the FBI and survivors that it was a hoax, lead investigator Assistant Chief Constable George Oldfield was convinced they were genuine and became fixated on catching a man with a Sunderland accent. They even let Sutcliffe go at first because of this, meaning that he was able to carry on his killing spree.

Humble died in July last year. Hopefully he's rotting away in Hell beside Sutcliffe.

The entire episode was an unbelievable scenario for those of us who were around at the time. Went on for years, in such a highly populated area, where women just couldn’t go out alone without the fear of being murdered by someone, who seemed to be to clever to be caught.

Then, on his arrest, the exposure of the poor investigation over many years, including being distracted by the other maniac and attention seeker, Humble.

Sutcliffe, eventually, being caught by chance over irregularities with car number plates.

The press conference held by Oldfield and the rest of his cronies after they had caught him, it was sickening. No contrition, no admission of failure, not  even any acknowledgement that the tape had been a hoax. It was all self congratulations as if the capture had been purely down to detective excellence, when in reality it was down to a couple of beat coppers doing their job.
