Berra- finished.

White- runs about.

Lee- 2 goals. No assists though, very poor.

Irving- had his moments

McGill- barely noticed him

Frear- noticed him less than McGill

Henderson- in and out

Wighton- might have had a couple, put himself about.

Naismith- Got involved, some nice play.

Kingsley- offered more than Berra in less time..

Frear and McGill were obviously suffering from the poor camerawork not showing their contributions. Unfortunately Berra and White featured a lot on the coverage and not to good effect.

Irving and Naismith were ok as was Lee for the first two minutes.

Useful clarity regarding our squad depth and hard to see that some of our loan players would not have done better.

It is hard to see, as they weren’t playing, but I reckon they wouldn’t have been much, if any, better. I agree the depth doesn't look too great, on that showing anyway, but hopefully we don’t need to see all those players in the one team again.

Stewart 6 - looked a bit shaky.

Brandon 5 - hopefully Smith stays fit all season.

Popescu 5 - not a great performance.

Berra 5 - poor performance and plenty of hoofball. First game for 8months in fairness.

White 4 - hopeless.

McGill 5 - quiet night.

Irving 6 - great goal, passing not up to usual standard though.

Henderson 5 - constantly ran in to players, lost the ball and gave it away. Did set up the first goal though.

Lee 7 - best player on the night.

Frear 5  - forgot he was playing.

Wighton 6 - absolutely starved of service. Should have scored after nice link up play with Naismith.

Naismith 6 - tidy on the ball.

Kingsley 6 - did ok.

Lee 7 motm for me.

The rest were pretty poor apart from Stewart who did nothing wrong really and made a cracking save.

Pretty meh evening but we got 3 points and through so all in all a decent night.

Stewart - 6 Couple of good saves. Sometimes hesitant to come off his line.

Brandon - 5 Lots of effort but never a football player.

Popescu - 4 Can’t header a ball.

Berra - 4 Got caught out, punts up the park and unusually weak in the air. First game in 7 months.

White - 5 Fast but that’s about it.

McGill - 5 I’m sure he done a lot of work off the ball that’s hard to see on tv. But fouled a lot and didn’t get much of the ball.

Irving - 6 Was clearly a level above everyone else and a great strike.

Henderson - 5 One good run but not enough from him.

Lee - 7 Two good goals. Missed him when he went off.

Frear - 4 An imposter. Forgot he was playing.

Wighton - 6 Ran a lot but was isolated. Should have scored at least one.

Naismith - 6 Slowly getting back to his best.

Kingsley - 6 Steadied a sinking ship.

Brandon and Henderson will never be good enough for Hearts.

Berra is done, it actually makes me angry watching him back in the team punting the ball any which way. He's so lacking now it's sad.

Frear is shite.

All true but White was the worst player on the pitch. If Irvine wants to leave or sign a new contract he’ll have to start passing the ball better. Wighton was isolated too many times and that’s a crime when your playing any team especially East Fife.

Agree with most of this 👍

Key thing for me is the gulf between our 1st and 2nd string defence.  If Halkett and/or Smith get injured, my nerves will be shattered re the league and the cup final.  Appreciate that it was Berra’s first game in 8 months, but last night I felt like I’d been dragged back into a nightmare from 12 months ago.  You can see how nervous he makes the rest of the defence as well, because 10 secs after Berra gets the ball and hoofs it, they are on the back foot again.  Smith and Kingsley are full backs, whereas Brandon and White are wing backs   , who are going to struggle without a solid centre half pairing who are comfortable on the ball and having a Halliday or Haring type player dropping deep to take the ball. Lost count how many times White showed for the ball on the left and Berra ignored him.

Being in the championship means we can't have quality in depth.

As I said in the match thread, I was disappointed with some fringe players for taking this opportunity to push themselves into the managers thoughts with only Irving looking capable of stepping up

Wighton is clearly not a lone striker

Our defenders were all honking. As Treaurer just said above me, Wighton can't play up on his own. Midfield didn't really gel. Keeper looked good. That's about it.

The only reason I’m not jumping on Berra is because he was by all accounts solid at Dundee.

Im putting it down to a lack of match sharpness.

This.

He can’t be expected to be top of his game in his first match in 8 months. If he is the same after 3-4 matches then maybe.

Sad to say it, but I hope we never see him playing 3-4 matches for the first team again.

An obvious joke, I thought, having a dig at the Olly bashers.

More a piss take toward those who thik statistics really matter. Im no great fan of Lee but do enjoy the cry of 'but he's got assists' that comes chiming up at the first word of criticism.

I’d forget about Berra at Dundee, on the evidence of watching Berra for Hearts over the last 18 months he has just come to the end of the line at Hearts.

Close enough for me. Brandon was too erratic, Popescu never looked comfortable, Berra could only boot the ball up the park, White was an embarrassment, Lee was good until he done his ankle in and soldiered on till half time, Irvine was having to try passes that were just not on because of the lack of movement from players in front and square of him, McGill was just posted missing, Henderson had one good run and cross apart from that I can’t see a future for him at Hearts, Frear would come of that pitch thinking the manager will wonder what I did, Wighton is Wighton he did nothing special.
