JFK-1
Deep fake or what's more accurately called synthetic media is going to become a massive problem very soon. Already started but will become ever more common and even more sophisticated. Even just last year in 2019 Hollywood was incapable of creating totally convincing artificial human faces on film. Just this year alone software and I mean free software has become available to anybody that is indeed capable of creating totally convincing artificial human faces. Or recreating existing human faces and making them do or say anything the creator wants them to. Have a look at the following link. What you will see is a face that does not exist. It's entirely artificially created. If you refresh the link you will see another. Refreshing again over and over displays yet another human face that does not exist. https://thispersondoesnotexist.com/ This software can be used not just for still pictures but video too and will look perfectly convincing. There are also versions of it that can create, or recreate, totally convincing human voices. It's already been used to take samples of the voices of dead celebrities then make that voice say absolutely anything you want it to say. Totally convincingly. My thoughts on it are this is going to result in what you might term a nuclear explosion of disinformation possibilities. Slander, extreme mental distress for targets of it. The scope for mayhem is infinite. It could even create explosive international incidents.

The Internet
It's massively concerning. We've obviously been able to do this with pictures for years now which has caused enough problems, video is a whole other ball game. Soon everything you see online should be treated as a lie, if it's not already. But it won't because people believe whatever they want now regardless of whether it's true. RobboM
Totally coincidentally I was listeneing to a podcast on exactly this subject this morning. The example they kick off with is Richard Nixon reading the speech that had been prepared in the event of the moon landing ending in the deaths of the astronauts. The speech had been prepared but was, obviously, never needed and Nixon hadn't pre-taped a version. The fake uses voice and video techniques to emulate it. https://www.bravenewplanet.org/episodes/deepfakes-and-the-future-truth

It's a dirty little (not so) secret that porn is a huge influence in a whole lot of things. Why VHS beat Betamax, why BluRay beat HD-DVD. It's an industry larger than Netflix and Hollywood. The industry will have lawyers poring over every statute to see if they can have Marilyn Monroe getting snaked by JFK.

To be fair for The Irishman they apparently deliberately wanted to change the look of De Niro so he didn't look exactly like his younger self. The deepfake looks much better though. That’s all very well but as the last few years have proved you can’t pull back from something once it’s implanted in the conspiracy dafties heads. People can say something once and then quietly admit it’s not true at a later date but by then the seed is planted firmly in reality to some people. Look at how the crazies reacted to the "pizzgate" idiocy accusing the Clintons of running a paedophile ring from a pizza parlour. One crazy went to a pizza parlour and shot the place up looking for the kids. How much more crazy is such wackiness going to get if there were video of say Bill Clinton abusing kids?
