Trying to find a book from childhood

A friend on FB is trying to find a specific book from his childhood so that he can get it for his son. KB is usually decent with this sort of thing so I'll put it to the hive mind.

Can anyone help me;

I'm trying to find a book i used to love as kid
growing up, as I'd love to have it for Toby as he
grows. I don't recall many exact details about it,
but I remember it as follows;
- it was kid friendly, probably aimed around ages
5-12, somewhere in there

- it was like a fake handbook/encyclopedia/
creepypasta like book, filled with details of
different monsters around the world and drawings
of said monsters

- don't recall it including real or popular monsters,
instead all were made for this book from what I
recall

- the main one that sticks out to me was near the
end of the book, and it was a giant monster that
was apparently mistaken for an island. I remember
the artwork for this being a huge half oval sticking
out of the water.

I've tried googling monster books from the 90s for
hours with no luck. it could have been from the
80s, but I'm fairly confident in it being around that
earlv/mid 90s

Thanks!

My brother had one he loved in the early 1980s. I just text him and it was called Encyclopedia of Legendary Creatures.

I literally just came on to say that this came up on a google search 😂

My bro had to look it up as well. Which was surprising because he must’ve looked through it about 100 times when he was 8-9 years old.

I used to have a pull-out book of Fungus the Bogeyman where you got to pull the bogeys out etc Was cool.

I remember when I was at primary school a boy in my class brought copies of Fungus The Bogeyman in for us all to read before it was released to see what kids thought of it as his dad worked for the publishers and they weren’t sure about it. Plain white covers on them and no mention of the writer. Sadly we didn’t get to keep them as they would probably be quite collectible now.
