Mafia game - A Night (or more) at the Theatre

A Night (or several) at the Theatre

Lockdown has eased in JKBville and the local theatre company has been rehearsing over Zoom and are ready to let the critics in for their dress rehearsal.

There are 5 critics who can’t believe that this show is being put on and want to close it down. They will do anything they can - including nightly murder attempts - to get their own way. Despite being attention-seeking failed thespians, they are trying their best to remain hidden.

The Stage Manager will be trying their best to ensure that the show goes on. They can check out someone every night to see if they really ARE who they claim to be.

The Stage Manager will be ably assisted (they hope) by the backstage crew - props manager, make-up artist and costume designer.

Trying their best to protect the vulnerable luvvies and crew is the Director. They can give them some medication to thwart any attempts on their lives.

Someone you’d expect to be working for the production, but really in it to win it for themself is the lighting technician. If Sparky cuts the lights - someone won’t be seeing any more action when they come on again.

Someone else out to grab all the attention and plaudits is the writer. They know everything about everybody but need to be careful what they do with that information. Too free and easy with it and they might find themself incurring the wrath of the game moderator...an experimental role just to see what folk think.

And finally the cast. I assume you’ll all be claiming to be ‘just a cast member’ to throw the roled folk off the scent. If you want to be creative and come up with a role - MacBeth, Willy Loman, arse end of a horse...it’s up to you!

So, to summarise:

Goons

Evening News theatre critic

Sunday Post arts specialist

People’s Friend och, I’m fair missing the plays and things columnist

Viz why-aye, ony noodie bits? reporter

Peebles Gazette pages from the past compiler

Good guys

Stage Manager (Cop)

Props Manager (Mason)

Make-up artist (Mason)

Costume designer (Mason)

Director (Doc)

And the ‘could be good but maybe not’ duo

Sparky the lighting technician (Assassin)

Writer (Devil’s Advocate)

Goons win if they eliminate enough people through night-whacks and influencing lynches to leave them with a majority.

Writer wins if they are last roled player left alive.

Sparky wins if they are last roled player left alive

Town/theatre wins if they eliminate all goons.

So the game will end on a goon win or a town win. Town win could also give an individual win.

Maybe I'm missing something but the writer knows everyone's role?

But you'll punish them if they post too much about that info?

Still buzzing from the match tonight and happy to be a cast member in this. I should be able to think of a role to be seen as I actually did run a theatre in real life, but all I can think of is panto characters at the moment 😂

Anyway if I was stage manager I would use bs but I’m not.

If they survive night 1 I'll pass on the info. They ARE out to win it for themself predominantly.

Could turn out to be a load of shite

No deadline then? Strap in for a long day one full of thrills and spills!

Would investigate Ian if I was the cop, simply because it made him furious the last game when I said the same and he turned out to be a goon.

There will probably be a deadline.

I'm torn between Saturday 9pm or Sunday 9pm.

If there's plenty of chat and interaction I'd be more inclined to go for Sunday.

Remember day 1 always being slow, nobody wanting to post to much to possibly draw attention to themselves

That's the thing - nobody wants nearly 48 hours of idle, bland chit-chat.

Would folk be generally happy with a Saturday 9 pm deadline?

Why not go for an early Sunday morning deadline and the next deadline being Monday night?

Folk are probably more familiar with a 9pm deadline and it'll give the turnaround that same feel.

Suppose I'd better think about some shan theatrical references for my posts. Is this one of my five a day @Boof or are you not enforcing that?

I'm more for quality over quantity but if some folk are posting literally nothing or a succession of one-word posts to appear verbose I might have to consider the Mafia equivalent of a finger-wagging from the ref.
