2008 corsa bulb changes

Ok I can't believe I'm having to ask this but how the hell do you change the bulbs on drivers side 58 plate corsa, my daughters  bulb has blown and I went to change it but can't get my hands in to change it in the tight space next to the air filter box, had a look online and it says you have to remove the drivers side of the bumper to take out the headlamp unit to replace the bulb, surely there is a easier way, is there any mechanics on here that can point me in the right direction. On a side note my passenger side tailgate light and brake light has blown on my zafira but seems pretty straight forward to remove the unit and replace the bulbs

Probably easier and more accessible (than from underneath) if you’re comfortable taking the top of the air filter casing off. Not a major job.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah seen a YouTube video where they removed the air filter casing off to gain access to the bulb, looks pretty straightforward so thats what I'll probably have to do, was just curious if there was a quicker option I'd missed, dont know why make what should be a 2 min job into having to remove other parts of the car to sort

I think you'll have to do what was in the video, which was probably the one I just looked at.  My last car was a Corsa. I had it for 10 years and thankfully didn't have to change a driver's side front bulb in that time.  The car was badly designed for stuff like that. Someone told me that they took theirs to a garage to have it done and were charged an hours labour.  Even changing a rear bulb involves removing the whole light cluster.

Yeah I'm going to have to follow that video, it does look pretty simple and I have tje tools to do it, as long as it goes back in properly lol

I just done my tailgate bulbs on my zafira this morning, and tbh it only took a few mins to do, the hardest part was getting the bulb holder out the unit as didn't want to be to forceful incase I broke it lol

Reminds me of when my headlight bulbs kept blowing on my old Megan Scenic.

 

Would always pay for fitting at Halfords and watch their face drop when I told them my car make. Nightmare to navigate in.

 

I dont think Reed Richards could have fitted the bulbs quicker.

I know what you are talking about as I had one of those cars - its a nightmare for someone who isn't comfortable messing around inside cars.

 

I took it to kwik fit or similar and it wasn't too much or didn't take long to get done while I waited.

Scots of Haddington would only be £15 supplied and fitted which is pretty good tbh, ido prefer to do the little jobs like this myself tho lol I had a meriva and the headlamp had to be removed but it was really straightforward, there was a coue of pins you had to pull out and the unit came straight out. Going to do the air filter this time when my daughter gets home from work amd if its a more hassle than its worth I will use Scots in future lol

I had a scenic a while ago, bulbs were the least of my worries with that car lol I had a manufacturers issue with the ignition coils where I was constantly having to replace them, I was giving a few boxes to keep and became a pro at changing them lol

Nothing easy to work on cars these days, engines are a no go area now with diagnostic equipment

required to suss out problems.

In saying that cars are more reliable these days.

I've thankfully not had to change a bulb in a car in nearly 20 years. They seemed to blow all the time in my 1995 ford escort. What a pile of shit that car was.

Think my escort was a 1992, anyway going west on bypass under bridge to currie, slight bump 

on road and engine cuts out, managed to get to the layby at the bottom, towed home .

was the Engine control unit, 300 pounds at Alexanders tollcross, yes should never have gone there.😕.

I have a corsa 2016 had both lights 1 on front and 1 on rear the rear one was simple  3 thumbscrews and Unlatch the plug  was easy 2nd never bothered went to usual garage That I get mot and service  at Brunswick  Road lane done in 5 mins £5 If you use the same garage regularly I think changing an inaccessible bulb Comes as good service only pay for bulb

Mine started conking out when the revs dropped, it made roundabouts fun. I'd drop a gear and the engine would just go dead and the steering lock would come on 😂.

 

That car was in a ditch once with half a fence through the front grill into the radiator. I should've just set it on fire then and said goodbye.

Dodge played a blinder with locating the battery in my Viper. You've got to take off the rear wheel and pull out all the arch linings to get to it. 

 

Not as bad however as the fuel filter on my RX7, you have to drop the entire rear differential assembly to get to that. Well played Mazda. Dicks.

Astras and vectras are the same. If you've got thin arms, you don't need to remove anything. Its fiddly but you just need to turn the bulb holder less than a quarter. Just remember what way it came out. And when you put the new bulb in, remember and don't touch it with your fingers. Hold it with a paper towel or wear a disposable glove. Sometimes just best to get Halfords to fit it for a fiver.

I can top that. I used to own Lancia cars back in the day, lovely things. Then the clutch went in one I had and discovered that to replace the clutch the engine had to come out!

Outstanding sir! One day I will buy a delta integrale. It may only work for 10 minutes, but they will be 10 great minutes. 

 

On a similar note, I once heard that after Ferrari got their act together and started making cars that reliably worked they started missing out on maintenance money, so when they built the F360, they ensured that to change the cambelt (~12,000 miles) you had to drop the entire engine leading to an £8k bill.

Kia ceed are the same apart from you have a fuse box on one side and battery on the other side so if your hands are thicker than a £10note your gonna be in a world of pain changing the bulbs.

Very true, i have a diagnostic thing in my car, run health check every so often on it

I had the astra bertone a few years ago, was really simple to change the bulbs on that, dealers like to make everything as difficult as possible these days to try and get you to take it to them for the simplist jobs. I got big hands even got my daughter to try with her small hands and it was just impossible to get the bulb out, so took the air filter box out and changed the bulb that way. Yeah in future will be getting a garage to do itbfor the convenience of a few quid
