Wonderful memories.

Does anyone recognise the 2 young lads to the left of Foster? Anyone on here?

It's the bloke to the right of Wayne's legs that stood out for me.

Pressed against the fence, utter joy on his face and trying to stop his head from exploding.

Mates and I had a side on view of Wayne's goal. Stood near the segregation fence between us and the future emailers.

Madness, joy and flying limbs all over the shop. 🤪

When we scored I ended up about 20yards further down.

heids, legs, arms, I’d probably have a heart attack nowadays.

A strange day for me. My Gran passed away that morning, but my Dad said go to the game.

Met my mates in the local pre-match, taxis to the game, late in, missed Robbie opener.

Seemed like we were being pummeled all game, until Mr Foster intervened.

Carnage.

Back to the local, and it was good fun, but I wasn't as ebullient, for obvious reasons.

But, every year on this day this game gets mentioned and it automatically makes me think of my Gran, and that's a great thing. Double dipped happy memories!

Likewise this game brings back memories of my Dad.

He passed away on the Friday after the match. 27 years ago today.

Seems like yesterday.

Als je club Heart of Midlothian F.C. heet weet je eigenlijk al dat je goed zit. De club die gemakshalve vaak Hearts wordt genoemd en ook nog eens de bijnamen

Busby hit the post in first half and remember thinking it's going to be one of those nights. Still have great memories of that game even though my father wouldn't let me run on pitch at the end.

It was very early, perhaps the second minute or so, when Busby hit the post. I remember having the same feeling as you, and saying to my brother, " there's our excuse, we can go home now."

I used walk around the pitch with that tray thing that looped over your head with cartons of juice and chewing gum for sale.

For some reason I was more often at ER. Always f&@king raining.

How strange.

Something I can never ever begin to understand. One classic example of late is one lad who I remember well from Braga and a few other European trips around that time, he was always decked out in full regalia and well known for his Hearts allegiances but somehow ended up being a Hibs Casual 🤣 and an Irish Republican sympathiser 🤣 word got back to me a few years later that he ended up getting his arse served to him on a plate from the Hearts Casuals 🤣 whilst they were knocking ten bells out of Hibs in a lane near Rose Street.

Imbecile !

64 years ago. Here is a programme for an exhibition match played between the British Army and the French Army back in the days of National Service

Jimmy Armfield + 3 Busby Babes (including Duncan Edwards)  + one Hearts man who had made a significant contribution to the club's history the previous Saturday

Who was the Hearts man

What had he done the Saturday before?

Definitely shame but not in a sympathetic way more of embarrassing way that someone would spend nearly 30 odd years supporting Hearts but then decide to swap colours for our deadly rivals, in fact that's disgusting 🤮

Is A Crawford actually Ian Crawford who scored two in the '56 cup final (which isn't quite 65 years ago yet!).

Yes - odd to think he played in the Cup Final at Hampden the previous Saturday then was at Dulwich Hamlet the following Saturday playing the French Army...

Also odd to think Bill Foulkes (T Foulkes here) was playing for Man United at the time (1956) and also scored away to Real Madrid 12 years later in 1968 in the European Cup semi final, passed to by George Best!

Is that Gallacher?

Looks like handlebar moustache and sideboards.

Don't recall him like that.

Edit

I reckon 74/75 2-1 win

making it Alan Anderson,  didn't  think it was him

Is that ER in the top photo? Doesn’t look like a Hibs shirt.

Hibs having to change, as home teams did back then, as the Hearts top was too similar for black and white tv viewing. That's all green with white cuffs and collar.

Yes, that's him, I knew him from attending matches, I remember one game against Hibs, I was approaching the Tynie Arms with my boy just as the Hibs Casuals police escort was arriving, I was astounded to see him in amongst the rabble giving it laldy (singing they hate Jam Tarts and Dundee) I was absolutely gobsmacked, with that the Hearts casuals ran at them and there was a brief scuffle nevertheless from being a Hearts fan to that I would certainly never ever give him the time of day again.

Ah, right, just over-exposed in that 100+ year old picture, plus the terracing obscures the ground floor in the newer one :)
