A few mistakes

Broughy in an outfield shirt, Bobby's the wrong way round, Frank given his Sunday name and JJ's name wrong ... as is Bannon's

Don't think Malky was ever known as Mal either

Any chance you’ve got the years mixed up? This is listed as the 69 strip. 🤔. Could be season 70/71 ?

ive this prog showing we wore this strip in 71/72 though.

Perhaps I have, farin.

As suggested, other than being a baby/toddler/nursery etc., I wasn't really around in those days.

Still a bit odd that a definitive Hearts 1968/69 team photo can't be found, though?

Cheers for taking the time, bud.

Tynie HS old gym hall - Big Jo Munro, old headmaster, towering over Gary. Some well kent faces from Gorgie/Dalry in the background - one or two not bad players themselves in the crowd.

Yep it’s strange theirs so few team photo shoots of that year. When looking I came across these coloured images of hearts v Celtic from the early 70’s that are worth a look.

SFA (corrupt) ticket policy that day was designed to nullify and split the Hearts support to maximise the Rangers support and chances for them to win.

All sections of the stadium were all ticket EXCEPT the East Terrace, which the Hearts support would be expected to fill.

As a Hearts fan you had two choices to watch the match, buy a ticket for the North Enclosure (knowing you would get in) or pay cash at turnstile for East Terrace knowing that if full you would not get in! I went for the former (as did thousands of Hearts fans) because although we knew we would be outnumbered by bluenoses we knew we would see the match.

As for the East Terrace no surprise, thousands of Rangers fans were there amongst thousands of Hearts fans and outside were thousands that didn’t get in.

Prior to the match fans groups complained about the approach taken on tickets by the SFA and how it would result in chaos!

Did the SFA listen, did they care, were they bothered about Hearts and their supporters? No, no no!

Somethings never change the SFA not for for purpose, then, now ...... and for how much longer?

I'd forgotten about the background to this.

We were on the upper terrace at that end and could look down on the crowd - and it was massive. For context , I was at Hampden for the 74 game against England and the crowd was given as 95.000 and I remember looking down thinking there was way more than  that at the 76 final - but the official attendance was "only" around 85,000.  Which should tell you how many bailed in for free due to the pathetic Glasgow policing.  It's a miracle no one was crushed to death or had their heads caved in , given the number of beer bottles raining down on the Hearts fans - who were completely unable to move out of the way.

You did well to find pics of Hearts v. Morton from back then. We hardly ever played them between 1977 and 1981. 😁

Makes sense. Jim Brown was captain that season.

Picture is from 13 April 1977 - a 2-2 draw at Tynecastle watched by only 10600. The days of only two points for a win when we were as good as already down. We were 2-1  down until Jim Brown equalised almost right at the end.

Ron Jensen!

George Fleming was an interesting player. He never looked much of a footballer, with a sort of splay footed jogging style around midfield, so he was never nice to watch. He was always started games though and was one of Jim MacLean's first signings at Dundee United. The rest is history.

George scored many important goals for us back then - "Last Gasp" George at Links Park to get a 1-1 draw in the Cup, last minute against Motherwell in the Texaco Cup semi final etc. He was a hard working midfield player who didn't get enough appreciation.

As you say, Jim McLean saw enough to sign him and one thing "Wee Jum" knew was a player...

If true, then that was my first ever game and I must be in the background as that was where we used to go. Down the front  at the Refreshments part.

The angle of the fence / wall at the corner flag looks an identical angle the one that separated the south enclosure & Gorgie Road terrace ..

Boris and Jambo Fox are correct. It is a shot from the 1913 Scottish Cup Semi between Clyde and Raith just before the Archibald Leitch Stand was built in it's place. It was a weird looking stand in two parts as shown in this shot. Attached is another picture from the same game, which again shows the stand int he background.

My dad had bought two tickets for him and me , we got trapped trying to get through to the north enclosure entrance . My dad later admitted to me he was seriously worried about our safety that day , even though he was 6”2 and around 16 stone of muscle he thought we’d be crushed , it took all his strength to keep me in his arms .
He came face to face with 2 rangers fans and he said if they got us out the crush they could have our tickets .
They almost picked us up and carried us to safety , true to his word my dad gave them our tickets and off they went . We headed to find a chippy and went back to listen to it on the bus .
It really was a terrifying experience .

I got this image coloured and posted it elsewhere on another thread last year. Have to agree that this simple design is class and something Umbro, again, could be using to boost their retro range. Don't know if West Bromwich Albion ever brought it out again but I'm sure this would be a popular re-release.

Photo is from the Scottish Cup Semi Final on 29th March 1913 - Clyde v Raith Rovers. On the same day Hearts lost in the other semi final at Ibrox 1-0 to Falkirk.

Busby scores.

Not Busby's goal that night. This is a first half header at the Gorgie Road end - stand shows that is the case too.

Here is the goal below:-

Busby hit the post in first half and remember thinking it's going to be one of those nights. Still have great memories of that game even though my father wouldn't let me run on pitch at the end.
