You shouldn't draw any conclusions until you visit it.

I went to the one in Blackpool years ago...utter gash. The one they used to have on the High Street was better. The Sea Life Centre there is even worse than Deep Sea World, over the bridge.

The one in Blackpool was like a primary school project. Utterly horrendous

Pisa - stinking town, crap food and the tower is shit. Probably the worst part of Italy I've been to.

The Kelpies - pish

Have to disagree about the Mona Lisa. I must have stood looking at it for about 20 minutes before my wife had to drag me away. I then had to go back for another look before I left. The most amazing painting I've ever seen

As you might know, the Mona Lisa is actually unfinished.  Leonardo worked on it for about 15 years but was never satisfied with it.  When he died, it was sitting on an easel in his Paris studio.

Pisa the leaning tower area I thought was very good.A lot better than expected.

Struggling to think of anything in Italy that underwhelmed me apart from the San Siro.

Looks the part from the outside but a right shithole once inside.

Shame because it was the one stadium I was looking forward to visiting.

I found The Spanish Steps just to be some steps.

Yip just a lot of steps, didn't get the hype tbh.

Mind decent view of Rome from the top though.

I found the Airbourne museum in Osterbeek near Arnhem to be very underwhelming. Its in the old hotel that the allies used as a base in A Bridge Too Far, Hotel Hartzog or something? Glad I did it but I found there was too much reading involved with everything in Dutch, English and Polish. Film show with a 3D map in front of it was ok though as lights came on during the film on the map to show you where they were talking about.

Never been though.

I probably misinterpreted this post, but it's a good point. I'm almost never underwhelmed by any visitor attractions that I see because seeing something with your own eyes gives you a real perspective that makes the place/object mean much more to you. The Spanish Steps were full of people and not so interesting as a location but now that I've seen them with my own eyes (and other senses), if I ever hear them mentioned then it doesn't bring to mind an abstract object, it brings up the memory of the place I have actually been. So, although they weren't that exciting or impressive, I'm pleased that I saw them with my own eyes and that they mean something to me. I hope that makes sense. :D

I could say the same about the high-rises at Pefermill. 😉

Well, they are. The hype around them is mainly due to Roman Holiday and Keats.

I was underwhelmed by the Golden Gate Bridge. Just a longer, rust-coloured Forth Road Bridge.

Anyone thinking about doing it I can point you in the right direction for better places.....included the Dutch Mushroom and Asperegus museum.

Erawan Shrine in Bangkok. Girl I was on holiday with wanted to go and see it. Walked about for ages looking for it. Shite.

There's a sky train stop right there,  rookie error.

(Don't think I've ever been closer to it that looking out the window of the train though)

Went to the top of the leaning tower of Pisa in 1980. Weird walking around the top of it. Fantastic views from it too.

Following from yesterday listening to a radio phone in they asked for people to tell them about visiting somewhere that was well.....erm rubbish Times Square got mentioned along with somebody had visited and art gallery and the Mona Lisa was on display again it was tiny and not what they expected. My two which i thought was just a waste of time Madam Tussauds in London.....really just really & the Kennedy Space centre attraction in Florida a load of old space shuttles in a garden and a couple of space suits.........aaaaaand a gift shop.

Cant agree on Kennedy space centre....thought it was excellent, been twice and planning a 3rd for 2022

Seeing Saturn 5 - the largest rocket ever made for operation purpose, was mind blowing and doing a Q&A session with an engineer who worked on it  as well....

Second time we went we seen the launch, and destruction...!!, of Falcon 9 in 2015.....watched it launch and 2 minutes later watched it explode

The entry to the Atlantis exhibition is tremendous as well, wont spoil it in case anyone is planning to see it

Could easily have spent more time there on each trip, watching the shows and touring the exhibits....oh, and being able to touch a piece of the moon as well....[sure that would be a separate huge thread on KB though as well...]

Imperial War Museum. I suppose it wasn't underwhelming,  more saddening that there is a museum you can go to,  where our country pt pt proudly shows off the myriad ways it can and has killed people.

Didn't sit right with me,  won't be back.

I get what you're saying, but I didn't get that vibe at all.

Thought it was immensely moving in places and I came away with my anti war beliefs reinforced

The bit where you, even a bit, experience what being in the trenches was like was incredible

Reminds me of the demolished council housing at Pennywell.  An eyesore.

This

Statue of Liberty...couldn’t believe how small it was☹️

Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney Florida...it’s just an archway

Disneyland Los Angeles...pish, not a patch on Orlando

The Edinburgh Dungeon...we all got in for free and it still wasn’t worth it.

All the "dungeon" franchise locations are the same up and down the country.

Drama school teenage pricks on min wage overacting the pish out of it and really dodgy paper mache sets and models.

Avoid.

Loads of tourists think they are doing the Mary Kings Close type experience when they’re going to the Edinburgh Dungeon. I’ve had to put a few straight, as it’s an absolute ripoff.

This and the fecking road up to get there is horrendous.

Didn't think the road was all that bad - just been up there last week.

One thing I didn't realise was how small it was, for such a landmark name.  Only 300 odd people live there.  Was expecting at least double that.

Go off-season, make yourself some sandwiches and go early in the morning. Wonderful place when not chock a block with tourists.

Venice is a wonderful holiday.

So much to see and  do.

If you love your art and churches this is the place to go.

St Mark's Square is a must but do not eat or drink there.

Plenty of great places in Venice away from the square.Buy day passes for the vaporetti to explore.

Stay in Mestri for cheaper hotels.A short bus or tram ride away which your day travel pass covers.

Train from Mestri as well for a few euros not included in the pass.

So much to explore.

I’ve been there around a dozen times and I would happily return every year. It’s an endlessly fascinating city. Being out on the lagoon is an amazing experience too.
