Sir Sean Connery voted best Bond

Sir Sean Connery has been voted the best bond beating Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore.

This result was never in doubt, Roger Moore was the only one to get close imo.

My favourite bond movie was goldfinger.

I’ve changed the Title as I thought he was potted. 😎

I preferred Timothy Dalton as Bond.

The intelligent choice. Sadly the change to a grittier more realistic Bond came too soon after the silliness of the Moore era.

Also I’m glad Shir Sean isn’t dead.

Connery was the best Bond by a million miles but a large part of that is due to him being the actor of the original era of films,  which were the best by a million miles.   Stylistically,  production values,  glamour,  etc.   The only other good film (Her Majesty's Secret Service) had Lazenby,  who was an excellent Bond,  despite being an average actor and a bit of a dick.

I assume you haven't seen the film about him then, he's a total dude!

I’ve been watching the films over last few weeks. I’d forgotten how poor the Roger Moore films were. Moore was a good guy by all accounts, but as Victorian says above, there was a major decline in style and production values.

Nothing against Dalton or Brosnan, who are very good actors, especially older. But I don't think I've ever watched any of their pishy Bond films right through. Not that I  can remember, anyway.

Songs are shite now.

He's a shagger, a charmer, funny too. He broke hearts but he's a force of nature, total ledge.

Most people place Sean Connery at the top of the list and there’s a good reason for this.

His James Bond was the first, he burst into screen in 1962 Dr No - and his Bond had a squat Celtic athleticism to him and that felt real and dangerous.

If I were truly honest, I’d rank the James Bonds by the effect they had on me when I watched them on the screen the first time.

It wouldn’t be a question of who I thought was the best Bond, thinking has nothing to do with it but, rather, who took my breath away with the coolest on screen action.

Roger Moore was always my Bond, a vital, rare international movie star.

The first thing I remember: in Live and Let Die he’s about to take a bath, is smoking a cigar and suddenly sees a poison snake slithering towards him.

With an aerosol can and the lit end of the cigar he creates a kind of flame thrower and incinerates the snake.

That was a stunt I tried to recreate many times myself with matches and household cleaners, it’s a wonder I didn’t burn the boarding school down or set myself ablaze until someone caught me.

But even now I wonder if I could pull it off.

The second Roger Moore moment: the opening sequence in The Spy Who Loved Me.

After a harrowing ski chase, Bond is cornered and jumps, skis and all, off a dizzyingly high alpine peak.

He free-falls for a few moments and just we think he might fall to his death (he won’t, of course, but still) an enormous parachute - we didn’t know he had one of those billows out, emblazoned with an enormous Union Jack.

The cinema audience went crazy.

Roger Moore may not have been a great actor or a great Bond but he was an entertainer who gave pleasure to millions.

And he was a thorough gentleman, till the end.

We must salute him for that.

Pierce is definitely my favourite Bond. Connery is awful in everything he's done. That guy would play a deaf mute with his own accent.

Sean Connery is the greatest Bond IMO. He encapsulated all the requirements of the character and is a better actor than he's given credit for. Most American actors speak with an American accent in everything they do so nothing wrong with having a Scottish accent.

Colin Firth, the English actor, plays himself in every role but appears to be well thought of but I find him difficult to watch as lacks gravitas. Connery is a superstar and we should be thankful for his influence in the film industry. A lot of Scottish actors have him to thank.

For me, Brosnan is the beat bond. IMHO he has the perfect balance of charisma and cheese. Daniel Craig is never James Bond, again IMHO.

Connery would be my choice.  Moore joint second with Daniel Craig.

Dalton just didn’t convince as a Bond, imo.   Brosnan was ok, his last outing was a turkey though(Die Another Day).

I remember much discontent arising at the time with the Bond stuff and a timely intervention with the Bourne Trilogy kicking off gave us a much needed James Bond style slickness, fast paced thriller movie. I think it raised the stakes and the Bond makers went back to the drawing board prior to Casino Royale and Craig.

Sean played for Bonnyrigg Rose so he has to be the best Bond!

If he was better he could've played for Whitehill Welfare!!!

Sean for me then Daniel Craig, not fussed about the rest but I'd have Roger Moore at the bottom of the pile.

It's good, but it's not right.

When Saltzman and Broccoli almost didn't cast Connery for Dr No,   it was a similar near miss to Charlton Heston almost being overlooked for Ben Hur.    It was almost Burt Lancaster would you believe.    It could have been Cary Grant as Bond.

Ben Hur without Heston.   Imagine it.

The producers bafflingly went with Sam Smith's pop effort for Spectre instead of this:

Connery

Craig

Dalton

Moore

Brosnan

Lazenby

OHMSS is a great Bond film but Lazenby had shoes too big to fill. Moore and Brosnan suffered for having films that were too campy and full of double entendres. Dalton suffered from being like Connery and Craig when the public were too used to Moore’s raised eyebrow. Bond should be a hard drinking, aggressive *****. To quote Alan Partridge, “stop doing Bond wrong!”

Re Lazenby, the makers wanted to tie him up for another 6 films but he turned it down.

Honestly, watch Becoming Bond, its really good, funny too.

Decent summary, with exceptions.

Roger Moore & Live & Let Die is top 5 Bond .

That, The Spy Who Loved Me and The Man With The Golden Gun are his best ones. I enjoyed most of his films but they had a ‘so bad it’s good’ vibe about them. Octopussy is terrible though.

Roger Moore was always my favourite bond mainly because he's the 1 I grew up with but Connery was the best, no contest.

Agree with this. Saw a film where Connery played Robin Hood with a Scottish accent. Little John was the same! Remember Colin Firth playing an American ex golf pro and he at least attempted an accent.
